ORANGE CREAMSICLE SALAD INGREDIENTS

orange creamsicle salad raw ingredients that are labeled

You will need:

  • 1 (3-ounce) box orange-flavored gelatin
  • 1 (3.4-ounce) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • ½ cup cold water
  • 1 (8-ounce) tub whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 (14-ounce) cans mandarin oranges, drained (reserve 8 to 10 for garnish)
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • ¼ cup mini marshmallows (optional garnish)

PRO TIP: You can use fewer oranges and mini marshmallows, but it will seem a bit unbalanced.

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

NUTS: You can also add ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans for an added crunch in your salad.

FLAVOR: This recipe can be adapted to any pudding and jello flavor you’d like.

WHIPPED TOPPING: If you would prefer to use homemade whipped cream instead of Cool Whip in this easy fruit salad, check out our recipe here.

CREAM CHEESE: For a thicker dressing, you could mix in cream cheese with the Cool Whip.

FRUIT: If you choose to change up the jello flavor in this easy recipe, I would also recommend changing the fruit. For example, if you go with strawberry jello try adding sliced strawberries in place of the mandarin oranges.

HOW TO MAKE THIS ORANGE CREAMSICLE SALAD RECIPE

STEP ONE: Using a medium-sized heat-safe bowl, stir together the orange jello mix and boiling water. Stir until the gelatin is completely dissolved.

STEP TWO: Stir in the cold water. Place in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

STEP THREE: Remove the cooled gelatin from the refrigerator, and whisk in the instant pudding until completely incorporated. Cover the bowl and return to the refrigerator for 20 minutes.

STEP FOUR: Remove the bowl from the refrigerator. Fold in the whipped topping, drained mandarin oranges and mini marshmallows. Return to the refrigerator and chill for 2 hours or overnight.

PRO TIP: This simple recipe tastes even better if you can let it chill for a couple of hours before serving.

HOW TO SERVE

This delicious jello salad is so light and fluffy, it is perfect for either a delicious side dish or for dessert. It is a classic choice to bring to family gatherings or to serve for special occasions. Everyone will love the light texture and orange flavors of this orange creamsicle fruit salad.

Serve our refreshing iced tea, raspberry iced tea, sweet peach iced tea, or our southern strawberry sweet tea on the side to wash it down.

STORAGE

IN THE FRIDGE: Store any leftovers of this mandarin orange salad tightly covered in plastic wrap or stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

MAKE AHEAD: You can make this orange creamsicle fluff salad ahead of time. In fact, I recommend making it the night before you plan to serve it. That way it can sit in the refrigerator and the flavors can blend together. It also allows the marshmallows to soften up a bit.

IN THE FREEZER: You can freeze this orange jello salad recipe and it will keep for about 3 months. Be aware that the texture of the marshmallows won’t be the same once they’ve thawed out. Since this is such a simple recipe to make, it’s best to make it fresh.

PRO TIP: Another idea is to use your leftover orange creamsicle jello salad to make creamsicle-style popsicles, by placing the leftovers into a popsicle mold. You can also spread it in a baking dish and scoop it up like ice cream once it freezes. It’s delicious this way!

The recipe is saying oh add the pudding. Does that mean just add the pudding powder OR is it supposed to be mix into a pudding BEFORE you add it?

  2. Pam says

This sounds delicious. I’ve been searching for a lost recipe from the 60’s-70’s. It was an mandarine orange/ marshmallow salad but the only clear ingredient memory were mandarine oranges & peach yogurt. Does it sound familiar?

Made this at work. I didn’t add the additional cold water and it turned out great. I had to convert to industrial size though.
