Millionaire Pie Ingredients

Millionaire Pie raw ingredients that are labeled

Delicious millionaire pie is a treat that you won’t want to miss out on!

The crust balances out the filling, made from condensed milk, crunchy coconut, pecans, cherries, juicy pineapple chunks, and lots of luscious whipped topping.

To make this over-the-top pie, you’ll need:

  • 1¼ cups of sweetened shredded coconut flakes
  • 1 cup of chopped pecans (divided into ¾ cup and ¼ cup)
  • 1 (20-ounce) can of crushed pineapple, very well drained
  • ½ cup of chopped maraschino cherries plus 9 whole cherries with stems attached (one 10-ounce jar)
  • 1 (14-ounce) can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1½ cups of Cool Whip whipped topping, thawed (divided into 1 cup and ½ cup)
  • 1 (9-inch) premade graham cracker crust
  • 2 tablespoons of toasted coconut flakes (optional topping)

Substitutions And Additions

COCONUT: In this classic no-bake recipe, you can substitute sweetened coconut flakes for the toasted flakes for the optional garnish.

NUTS: You can substitute any chopped nuts for the pecans.

PINEAPPLE: While crushed pineapple gives this pie its fruity sweetness, switch things up by using other canned fruits like mandarin oranges, peaches, or even a mixed fruit cocktail.

Just make sure to drain them well before adding to the mixture.

SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK: While sweetened condensed milk is the star ingredient in this recipe, you can experiment with different flavors by using flavored sweetened condensed milk.

Chocolate or caramel-flavored versions can create a unique twist on the traditional millionaire pie without altering the preparation process.

MARASCHINO CHERRIES: If you’re not a fan of maraschino cherries or want to try something different, replace them with fresh berries like strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries.

GRAHAM CRACKER CRUST: For a change in crust flavor, consider using a different type of cookie crust, like chocolate cookies, vanilla wafers, or even a shortbread crust.

How To Make This Old Fashioned Millionaire Pie Recipe

Since the pie requires about seven hours of chill time, we recommend making it the day before so it is ready when you want to serve it.

Mix together all the pie-filling ingredients before spreading the mixture in the premade pie crust and chill in the fridge.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

To make sure that as much liquid is out of the crushed pineapple, place the drained pineapple on a thick layer of paper towels.

Then lay a thick layer of paper towels on top of the pineapple.

Press down to “squeeze” the remaining liquid out. It’s important to remove the excess, or your pie will not set at all.

STEP ONE: Add the coconut flakes, three-quarters of a cup of pecans, well-drained crushed pineapple, chopped cherries, and sweetened condensed milk to a large bowl.

Stir to combine completely.

PRO TIP:

Also use the paper towel process for the chopped cherries to remove as much of the cherry juice as possible.

STEP TWO: Gently fold in the one cup of thawed whipped topping.

STEP THREE: Evenly spread the pie filling into the prepared graham cracker pie crust.

Cover and chill in the refrigerator for seven hours.

One hour before serving, move the pie to the freezer for sharp, clean slices.

PRO TIP:

Give this no-bake millionaire pie plenty of time to chill in the fridge, so the filling has time to set before serving.

STEP FOUR: Add a half cup of the thawed whipped topping to either a disposable piping bag or a quart-size Ziploc bag with a corner snipped off.

Pipe dollops of whipped cream in the center and one dollop at the edge of each pie slice.

STEP FIVE: Place the reserved maraschino cherries with stems on top of the whipped topping dollops, sprinkle with toasted coconut, and reserved chopped pecans.

Troubleshooting This Recipe for Millionaire Pie

The pie is overly sweet.

Solution: If you find the pie to be too sweet for your liking, you can reduce the sweetness by using less condensed milk in the filling.

You can also balance the taste by adding a bit of lemon juice or zest to the filling for a touch of tartness.

The pie has a watery texture.

Solution: If your pie turns out watery, it could be due to using fruits with a high water content or not draining canned fruits properly.

Make sure to drain fruits like pineapple thoroughly and pat them dry with paper towels before adding them to the filling.

Additionally, avoid using frozen fruits in this recipe, as they tend to release more moisture.

The pie filling won’t set.

Solution: If your pie filling remains too runny after refrigerating, it may not have been mixed thoroughly.

Make sure you mix the sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese, and whipped topping until well combined.

Additionally, ensure that your pie has been refrigerated for the recommended time of at least seven hours or overnight to allow it to set properly.

How To Serve Million Dollar Pie

For the best texture and ease of slicing, ensure your Millionaire Pie has been thoroughly chilled in the refrigerator for at least a few hours, preferably overnight.

A chilled pie not only holds its shape better but also enhances the flavor profile.

Run a sharp knife under hot water and wipe it dry before slicing into the pie. The warmth of the knife helps to cut through the chilled filling more cleanly, ensuring beautiful, intact slices.

Repeat this step between slices for the cleanest cuts.

Just before serving, consider adding fresh garnishes to bring a pop of color and texture to your pie. Here are some serving ideas:

SERVE A LA MODE: Serve it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce to make it even more indulgent.

SERVE WITH CHOCOLATE: For chocolate lovers, serve your pie with a drizzle of hot fudge sauce or a sprinkle of chocolate shavings.

SERVE WITH FRESH BERRIES: A handful of fresh berries adds a pop of color, freshness, and a touch of tartness to balance the sweetness of the pie. Try raspberries, blueberries, or sliced strawberries.

SERVE WITH A COLD DRINK: Pair your millionaire pie with a variety of beverages. A glass of iced tea or pineapple lemonade complements the pie’s sweetness.

SERVE WITH A HOT DRINK: Enjoy it with an after-dinner coffee, like an espresso or a warm hot chocolate to wash it down.

When To Serve Millionaire Pie

Storing This Millionaire Pie Recipe

This millionaire pie is a great dessert option when you’re wanting to feed a crowd, but sometimes you might just end up with a leftover slice or two.

No worries, this pie stores beautifully in the fridge and can even be frozen for future enjoyment.

Here’s how to keep your millionaire pie to keep your pie fresh when storing:

Make Ahead

The good news is you can absolutely assemble this pie ahead of time. Simply prepare the filling and pour it into your pre-made graham cracker crust.

Once assembled, cover your pie with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container to prevent it from absorbing any odors from the fridge.

Refrigerate for up to 24 hours before topping with the Cool Whip.

It can be safely made up to 24 hours in advance, allowing you to focus on other aspects of your meal planning. Remember, the fresher, the better, especially when it comes to the creamy filling and crisp crust.

In the Fridge

To store the Millionaire Pie in the fridge, ensure it’s tightly covered with plastic wrap or placed in an airtight container.

This pie can comfortably stay in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. The crust will soften slightly, but the flavors will still be delicious.

The key is to keep it cool and away from any strong-smelling food items to maintain its original flavor profile.

If your pie has fresh fruit or a whipped topping, it’s best enjoyed sooner rather than later, as these ingredients can become less appealing over time.

In the Freezer

Freezing your Millionaire Pie is a great option if you’d like to extend its shelf life even further.

To freeze, assemble the pie completely and freeze it solid, uncovered, for about 2 hours. Then, wrap the pie tightly in plastic wrap and then again in foil to protect against freezer burn.

Properly stored, it will maintain its best quality for about 1-2 months. When you’re ready to enjoy your pie, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator.

It’s important to note that the texture of the whipped topping and crust may change slightly after freezing and thawing, so for the best texture, consider adding fresh whipped cream upon serving.

Thaw the pie overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
