SUBSTITUTIONS and additions
Orange Jello: This recipe would be delicious with any type of Jello. Strawberry jello would make for a strawberries and cream style salad. Peach jello, for a peaches ‘n cream flavor, would also be super delicious.
Mandarin Oranges: If you choose to change up the jello flavor in this recipe, I would also recommend changing the fruit. For example, if you go with strawberry jello try adding sliced strawberries in place of the mandarin oranges.
HOW TO MAKE THIS ORANGE FLUFF RECIPE
STEP ONE: In a large bowl, combine orange Jello mix and boiling hot water. Use a whisk to stir until all Jello is dissolved and then add the cold water. Use a rubber spatula to scrape around the sides of the bowl. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
STEP TWO: Remove from the refrigerator and whisk in dry instant vanilla pudding mix. Use the rubber spatula to scrape the sides of the bowl again to ensure all jello and pudding are dissolved. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place back in the refrigerator for another 15-20 minutes.
STEP THREE: Remove the bowl from the refrigerator and gently fold in the manadarin oranges, cool whip, and marshmallows. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and place back in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until ready to serve.
STORAGE
IN THE FRIDGE: You can most definitely make Orange Fluff ahead of time. In fact, I recommend making it the night before you plan to serve it. That way it can sit in the refrigerator and the flavors can blend together. It also allows the marshmallows to soften up a bit. Be sure to store your salad in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator. It will stay good in the fridge for 2-3 days.
IN THE FREEZER: You can freeze Orange Fluff and it will keep for about 3 months. Be aware that the texture of the marshmallows won’t be the same once they’ve thawed out. Since this is such an easy recipe to make, it’s best to make it fresh.
Orange Fluff is one of the easiest desserts to make! Mixing together orange jello, vanilla pudding, mandarin oranges, and marshmallows makes a sweet dreamsicle inspired treat that everyone loves. It’s a simple summer dessert salad that’s the perfect dish to pass.
