Instant Pot Brown Rice
Our whole family loves a big bowl of fluffy brown rice with just about any meal. It’s the perfect versatile and filling side dish. It’s simple and quick to make — especially in the instant pot like I’m showing you today.
My boys love it with meatloaf or chicken with sauteed veggies on the side. (Don’t forget the dinner rolls!)
How Many Cups of Rice Can You Cook in Instant Pot?
In my 6-quart Instant Pot, I can cook up to 10 cups of rice at once.
I often will make one batch of rice for multiple meals. I will use it for sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, a broccoli stir fry, a cheesy chicken casserole, and homemade chicken and rice soup from scratch.
It’s the perfect way to tackle several recipes in one go.
Instant Pot Brown Rice Ingredients:
We’re talking basics today — it doesn’t get any simpler than this two-ingredient brown rice in the Instant Pot!
- 2 cups dry, uncooked brown rice
- 2 ½ cups water
You could also use stock or broth instead of water if you would like to add extra flavor. You can use short or long grain rice for this recipe. You’ll be amazed by the tender, delicious rice you’re able to make in only minutes!
How to Cook Brown Rice in Instant Pot
Begin by rinsing the rice well in a mesh strainer and then thoroughly drain.
Next, add the rice and water to your Instant Pot, stirring to combine.
Put the lid in place and lock. Set the valve to sealing.
Press the manual button twice to turn off the “keep warm” function.
How Long Does it Take to Cook Brown Rice?
It only takes about 15 minutes to cook brown rice on high pressure.
Allow to naturally release for 10 minutes and then quick release to remove any remaining pressure.
Finally, fluff with a fork before serving.
Can You Freeze Cooked Brown Rice?
Yes! If you’re not serving all the rice right away, you can pop cooked brown rice in the freezer.
The easiest way to do this is to put the brown rice into freezer safe bags. It’s easy to lay flat in the freezer to store this way. It’s also awesome when it’s time to thaw and reheat.
I’m sure your family will enjoy this Instant Pot brown rice just like we do. I’d love to hear what meals you make with it.
