The key ingredients in our gooey brownies play essential roles in creating the perfect dessert. It starts with German chocolate cake, which forms the brownie base, infusing it with a rich chocolatey flavor.

Caramels introduce a sweet, chewy layer of caramel goodness, while Snickers minis bring a delightful crunch with peanuts, nougat, caramel, and milk chocolate.

Semisweet chocolate chips create gooey pockets of chocolatey goodness, and pecans provide a satisfying nutty crunch.

You’ll need:

  • 1 (15.25 ounce or 432 grams) box of German chocolate cake mix
  • 1 (12-ounce or 354 milliliters) can of evaporated milk (divided ½ cup, ⅓ cup, and ¼ cup and 2 tablespoons)
  • ½ cup of salted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 (11 ounces or 311 grams) of individually wrapped caramels (unwrapped)
  • 2 cups (40 minis) of Snickers minis
  • 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup of chopped pecans
  • 2¼ cups of milk chocolate chips

Substitutions and Additions

EVAPORATED MILK: For a lighter option, use low-fat evaporated milk instead.

SALTED BUTTER: Unsalted butter works, too; just add a pinch of salt to the brownie mix.

CHOPPED PECANS: If you have nut allergies, feel free to omit the pecans or substitute them with your favorite nut or seed.

SNICKERS MINIS: Swap Snickers minis for other chocolate bars or candies to experiment with different flavors.

How To Make This Snickers Brownies Recipe

To make these fudgy brownies, the first step is to make the brownie batter. Then, following our instructions, you will layer it with a creamy caramel and Snickers minis. Let’s get started.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

When melting the butter, let it cool to room temperature before adding it to the cake mix. This prevents the butter from being too hot and affecting the texture of the brownie base.

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Generously spray a 9×13 (or 13×9) baking dish with baker’s spray. You can use Baker’s Joy or a generic version. Set it aside.

STEP TWO: Add the cake mix, ½ cup evaporated milk, and melted butter to a medium-sized mixing bowl (2-3 quarts).

Use a handheld electric mixer on medium-low to mix the brownie base until just combined. Divide out ⅓ of the brownie base and cover it with plastic wrap.

STEP THREE: Evenly spread ⅔ of the brownie batter into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake for six minutes.

PRO TIP:

Oven temperatures vary and may need to be recalibrated periodically to ensure they are accurate. Make sure to keep a close eye on your brownies as the suggested baking time approaches.

STEP FOUR: While the brownie base is in the oven, make the caramel layer. Add the unwrapped caramels to a microwave-safe small bowl. Pour ⅓ cup of the evaporated milk over the caramels.

Heat in the microwave (on full power) for one minute. Carefully remove the bowl and stir. Continue heating in 30-second intervals and stirring until the caramel mixture is smooth.

STEP FIVE: Remove the brownie base from the oven. Arrange the two cups of Snickers minis evenly over the brownie base.

Sprinkle the semisweet chocolate chips over the Snickers layer, followed by the chopped pecans. Gently press the Snickers, chocolate chips, and pecans into the brownie layer.

STEP SIX: Carefully drizzle the melted caramel over the pecan layer. Remove the plastic wrap from the reserved ⅓ brownie base. Drop spoonfuls of the remaining batter over the caramel layer. Be sure to stagger the spoonfuls.

Gently smooth the spoonfuls of brownie out. Do not try to cover the caramel up; you want patches of the caramel to be visible. Bake the brownies for another 15-17 minutes. Allow the Snickers brownies to cool completely.

STEP SEVEN: Add the 2¼ cups milk chocolate chips and ¼ cup plus 2 tablespoons of evaporated milk to a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 40 seconds, and stir until the chocolate is smooth.

Use an offset spatula to smooth the melted chocolate evenly over the top of the brownies. Allow the chocolate to set before cutting three slices by six slices and serving.

PRO TIP:

Allow the brownies to cool completely at room temperature before cutting them. This helps them set properly, making it easier to achieve clean, even slices.
