Easy Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe
Please tell me spring is truly just around the corner. I’m so ready for sunshine and being outdoors without a heavy coat! Although March 20th is the first official day of spring, I’d love it if the March 1st meteorological season date would be the real deal this year—that’s just around the corner. But, the great outdoors is still cold, yucky-wet and generally unattractive where I live, so I’m not even betting on March 20th yet. Sigh.
To console myself, I have more fresh flowers in the house than I do at any other time of year. It helps! I’ve also been faithfully sticking with my exercise/healthy habits routine. That’s a mood booster too. Besides feeling better about myself when I know I’m doing the right thing, exercise naturally releases feel-good hormones that make you feel happy and calm. Water contributes to that too. I’ve read that some studies show when we get dehydrated, our bodies actually “feel” that at a molecular level, which gets communicated to our subconscious as anxiety and nervousness. Isn’t that interesting? Drinking enough water can boost energy and reduce fatigue too, and those are just a couple of the many benefits of drinking enough water.
The right kind of water makes a huge difference to me. I’ve known that water is a major player in good health. Mike is a poster child for good habits and he’s been on me about mine, but until we started using our Strauss WaterBar I had a hard time making myself drink. Most plain water just didn’t taste good. The Strauss WaterBar removes 99% of harmful bacteria but it leaves all of water’s natural essential minerals intact and that makes all the taste difference for me. And now that I’m drinking more, Sam drinks more too. That parenting-by-example thing works!
Unlike a lot of water purifying systems I’ve seen advertised, the Strauss WaterBar is compact and stylish so I don’t mind it being part of our kitchen scene. It’s so convenient to have purified cold or hot water at the touch of a button. It tastes great, you save money since you don’t need bottled water and you save the environment too because you reduce plastic waste and it’s more energy efficient than heating water on the stove.
Are you getting thirsty? If you’re just starting to pay attention to how much water you’re drinking, making something like this strawberry banana smoothie is a super way to include more water in your daily habit. Have a glassful—let’s toast to an early spring!
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 frozen banana
- 3/4 cup plain yogurt
- juice of 1/2 an orange (medium sized)
- 4 ounces of water
- Blend all ingredients in a blender on high until desired consistency is reached. To me, this smoothie is the perfect consistency as is, but for a thicker smoothie add more frozen banana.
