Oreo mint truffles offer a unique blend of crunch and creaminess. The outer layer of the truffle features a crisp chocolate shell filled with a blend of crushed mint Oreo cookies and creamy cream cheese.

At first bite, these delicacies have a sweet, cool flavor that comes from their minty flavorings.

For these bite-size flavor bombs, you’ll need:

  • 1 (8-ounce) package of cream cheese, room temperature
  • 38 finely crushed mint Oreo cookies (use the entire cookies with cream centers), approximately 4 cups
  • 12 ounces of chocolate almond bark
  • 1 cup of green candy melts (optional garnish)

Substitutions And Additions

MINT OREOS: In these easy Oreo truffles, you can substitute thin mints for mint Oreos.

OREOS: If you can’t find the mint version of these cookies, you can use regular Oreos.

Add a half teaspoon of mint extract to the cream cheese mixture to maintain that refreshing mint flavor.

Be aware that this may introduce a slightly more pronounced mint flavor than the original recipe, so adjust to your preference.

CHOCOLATE: You could also use white chocolate almond bark rather than chocolate almond bark for a twist on these truffles.

SPRINKLES: They are purely optional, but if you’re looking to switch things up, crushed nuts like pistachios or almonds, coconut flakes, or even mini chocolate chips can add a nice touch of flavor and texture to your truffles.

Be sure to choose an addition that pairs well with your choice of extract!

How To Make This Mint Oreo Truffles Recipe

Truffles are about as easy as you can get for a homemade treat. With only four ingredients, you’ll be popping them in your mouth in no time.

You’ll mix up the creamy Oreo and cream cheese filling and form it into truffle-sized balls. Coat in melted almond bark and add the green drizzle. Easy peasy, right?

Here are the simple steps to make these mint Oreo cheesecake balls:

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

If you use a food processor to crush the chocolate cookies into fine crumbs, I have found it much easier to crush them in batches.

The chocolate sandwich cookies are usually packaged in rows of three, and that’s how I break up the batches. If you don’t have a food processor, you can also crush them in a Ziploc bag with a rolling pin.

STEP ONE: Using either a stand mixer or a handheld mixer on medium-high speed, beat the softened cream cheese for 1 to 1½ minutes until smooth.

PRO TIP:

Always make sure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature to help avoid cream cheese lumps in the truffle dough.

STEP TWO: Add the crushed cookies and continue to beat the cream cheese mixture until well incorporated.

Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour.

PRO TIP:

Don’t skip the chilling time. The chilled balls will be much easier to work with than ones at room temperature.

STEP THREE: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.

STEP FOUR: Use a 1-tablespoon cookie scoop to scoop the Oreo mixture.

Roll the scoops into balls and place the Oreo cookie balls on the prepared baking sheet.

STEP FIVE: Add the chocolate almond bark to a medium-sized heat-safe mixing bowl.

Heat in the microwave for one minute, and stir well. Continue heating in 30-second intervals until completely melted and smooth.

STEP SIX: Roll each truffle in the melted almond bark. Place the truffle on a fork and gently tap to remove any excess coating.

Use a spoon to pour the melted chocolate coating over any bare spots. Use a toothpick to gently push the truffle onto the lined baking sheet.

STEP SEVEN: Once all the truffle balls are coated, add the green candy melts to a small microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until smooth.

Use either a fork, a drizzle spoon, or a small squeeze bottle to lightly drizzle the melted green candy melts over the coated truffles.

Allow the truffles to harden completely before serving.

How To Serve

Mint Oreo truffles make a delightful treat, especially if served alongside another tasty accompaniment.

Try serving them with a glass of cold chocolate almond milk, which contrasts nicely with their sweet and cool taste.

To really drive home the flavors, moist and chewy chocolate kiss cookies will provide a pleasant crunch that pairs perfectly with the classic truffles.

You could also serve them with fresh fruit like raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries for a tart contrast.

Mint hot chocolate is also a delicious counterpart: just add crushed Oreos at the end for an extra crunchy texture.

These minty Oreo cookie truffles with their sweet green drizzle are perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.

Of course, the mint accents also make them ideal for the holiday season. Add them to a gift box of homemade confections along with our gingerbread truffles and chocolate orange truffles.

For even more easy recipes for delicious Oreo desserts, our Oreo delight and Oreo fluff are two winners.

Storing These Mint Chocolate Truffles

Whether you’re planning to make these ahead or have leftovers to preserve, here’s what you need to know:

MAKE AHEAD: Mint Oreo truffles are a fantastic recipe to make ahead! All the steps can be done up until the final step of dipping the truffles in melted chocolate.

Just prepare your Oreo and cream cheese mixture, roll them into balls, and store them on a parchment-lined tray in the refrigerator for up to two days before you’re ready to dip and serve.

This not only helps you plan ahead but also allows the truffle balls to firm up, making them easier to dip in chocolate.

IN THE FRIDGE: Store any leftover chocolate mint Oreo truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days.

IN THE FREEZER: You can also freeze the truffles for up to three months. Label the container with a best-before date so that you can enjoy them while they are the freshest.

Allow the truffles to thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

Iโ€™ve been making Mint Oreo Truffles for over a decade (usually over 30 dozen each holiday season since everyone loves them!) but Iโ€™m having trouble finding generic/affordable mint Oreos this year. Does anyone have any experience with using regular Oreos but adding peppermint extract to bring out more mint flavor? Thanks!
