These Nutella truffles are a delightful and indulgent treat that combines the rich cocoa flavor of Oreo Thins cookies with the creamy tang of cream cheese.

The star ingredient, Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread, adds a luscious, nutty, and chocolaty dimension to these bite-sized treats.

You’ll need:

  • 25 Oreo Thins cookies (half of a 13.1-ounce package)
  • 4 ounces of cream cheese, room temperature
  • ⅔ cup of Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 10 ounces of milk chocolate melting wafers
  • Chocolate sprinkles for garnish

PRO TIP:

You will want to use full-fat cream cheese for this recipe. The low and nonfat varieties do not mix in as well as they have a bit more liquid to them, making the mixture too soft to set up.

Substitutions And Additions

CHOCOLATE: If you want more decadent Nutella chocolate truffles, you can swap out the milk chocolate melting wafers for dark chocolate or semi-sweet melting chocolate.

You want to make sure you follow the package instructions for melting. Alternatively, chocolate almond bark can also be used to coat these chocolate hazelnut truffles.

SPRINKLES: If you change the type or colors of the sprinkles you use for garnish, you can coordinate them to match your favorite holiday season, bridal or baby shower, or even a sports team event.

Have fun and get creative with this sweet treat.

NUTS: Finely chopped hazelnuts in the chocolate mixture or on the outside instead of sprinkles would take this delicious treat to the next level.

OREOS: You can really amplify the Nutella flavor in this no-bake treat by using specialty Oreo cookies with the chocolate Nutella-flavored creme filling.

They may be seasonal, or you may have to order them if your local store does not sell them.

If you use this substitute, you will cut back the amount of cookies to 20 as they are thicker than the Oreo Thins I used for this no bake truffle recipe.

How To Make This Nutella Truffles Recipe

All that you need to do to make these irresistible treats is make the creamy Nutella filling and scoop them into balls before coating them in chocolate.

STEP ONE: Line a small rimmed baking tray with parchment paper. Set aside.

STEP TWO: In the bowl of a food processor, add the Oreo cookies and pulse until you have very fine cookie crumbs. This will take one to two minutes.

STEP THREE: Add the cream cheese, Nutella, and salt to the cookie crumbs.

Pulse an additional one to two minutes or until a ball forms in the bowl of your food processor. All the ingredients should be completely combined and smooth.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

Make sure that your cream cheese is very soft and room temperature so that it mixes in very smoothly with the cookie crumbs and Nutella.

STEP FOUR: Carefully remove the bowl and blade from your food processor and place the Nutella truffle mixture into the refrigerator to chill for 30 to 45 minutes.

It should be firm enough to hold the shape of a ball.

STEP FIVE: Using a small cookie scoop (1½ inches or 1 tablespoon-sized), you will scoop out a leveled amount of the chocolate mixture and roll it in the palm of your hand to form a small ball.

Place the ball of Nutella truffle onto the prepared baking tray. Repeat until all the truffles have been made.

PRO TIP:

By using a small cookie scoop, you will get uniform balls in the size you want for these truffles.

STEP SIX: Place the tray of Nutella truffles into the refrigerator to chill for an additional 1 to 1½ hours or until they are firm and hold their shape.

PRO TIP:

Don’t skip the chilling time. The chilled balls will be much easier to work with than ones at room temperature.

STEP SEVEN: Once your Nutella truffles have chilled, you can make the chocolate coating by melting the milk chocolate wafers in a small heat-safe bowl according to your package directions.

STEP EIGHT: Using a large fork, you will place one truffle onto the prongs of the fork and gently dip the truffle into the melted chocolate.

Evenly coat the truffle with the chocolate, then using the fork, lift it out of the chocolate, allowing any excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.

STEP NINE: Place the chocolate-coated truffle back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle a few of the chocolate sprinkles onto the top as a garnish.

Repeat until all the truffles are coated and garnished.

You can place your tray of milk chocolate-coated Nutella truffles back into the refrigerator to harden the outer coating for an additional five to ten minutes, or they can sit at room temperature until they are hard.

MAKE AHEAD: These Nutella truffles are a fantastic make-ahead treat.

Once you’ve rolled them into those perfect little spheres, place them on a baking sheet and pop them in the freezer for about 15 minutes. This will help them set nicely.

Then, transfer them to an airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper. You can store them in the freezer for up to two months.

IN THE FRIDGE: You can store your homemade Nutella truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for seven to ten days.

IN THE FREEZER: Freeze your decadent truffles in an airtight container for up to three months.

I am not a huge nutella fan but my daughter can eat it right out of the jar. She really loved these truffles! They are pretty simple to make and can be stored in the freezer for a longer lasting candy.
