WHITE QUESO DIP INGREDIENTS

You will need:

  • 1 pound white American cheese
  • ½ cup milk
  • 4-ounce can of green chiles
  • 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

CHEESE: I used sliced cheese but you can also cube a block of cheese if you’d rather. If you’d like to mix in other kinds of cheese for even more texture and cheesy goodness, try pepper jack, Monterey jack or mozzarella.

MEAT: For a heartier dip recipe, add half a pound of cooked ground beef or chorizo to your creamy white queso dip. You can also add half a cup of crispy, cooked and crumbled bacon on top before serving.

BEANS: If you’re looking for added texture, add a cup of black or pinto beans OR serve alongside yummy refried beans.

GARNISH: You can either top your homemade white queso dip with pico de gallo, or top with fresh tomatoes, green onions, jalapeños and cilantro.

HOW TO MAKE THIS WHITE QUESO DIP RECIPE

STEP ONE: Place the cheese and the milk in a medium-size saucepan over medium-low heat and stir until cheese has melted.

PRO TIP: As you add in the cheese to melt, be sure to whisk constantly to make sure it stays creamy and melts perfectly.

PRO TIP: Once the milk reaches a light simmer, immediately reduce to low. Never bring the heat over medium/low past that point.

STEP TWO: Remove from heat and add the green chiles and taco seasoning and mix together. If you’re serving at a party, I would suggest keeping it warm in a slow cooker on low.

PRO TIP: If your cheese dip is too thin, you can add in a tablespoon of cornstarch to help thicken it up. If your cheese dip is too thick, add a little chicken broth to help thin it out.

STEP THREE: Serve dip with chips, pretzels, or vegetables.

HOW TO SERVE

We love chips, pretzels, tortillas, and veggies with this cheesy dip. Whip up a batch of this easy recipe for game day or your Cinco de Mayo celebrations too!

You can also serve this delicious dip with our Mexican casserole and taco bake as well or as a dipping sauce with our rolled tacos or taco ring. It also tastes great over these southwest scrambled eggs or sauteed vegetables.

Add a little pico de gallo on top of your white queso dip for a truly irresistible taste. All you need is 2 diced Roma tomatoes, ¼ cup chopped onion, ¼ cup chopped cilantro, and 1 tablespoon lime juice. Mix all the ingredients together and use as topping for the dip or to serve on it’s own.

STORAGE

IN THE FRIDGE: If you have any leftover Mexican queso dip, pour it into an airtight container and store in the refrigerator up to 3 to 4 days.

REHEATING: Add a bit of additional milk and heat in the microwave in 15 to 30 second increments, stirring between each increment to make sure it’s fully heated through.

You’ll love this zesty, spicy white queso dip as a topping for taco night or as a perfect addition to your selection of favorite appetizers at your next party along with a big pile of tortilla chips and raw veggies. It’s so quick and easy to make from scratch with just a handful of ingredients plus you can double or triple the recipe for a crowd. You’ll be ready to eat in minutes!

FAQ

What does queso mean?

The translation of queso is cheese in Spanish and this dip is similar to the traditional cheese dip you can get at Mexican restaurants. Since this dip is made with white cheese, it is technically queso blanco dip (White Mexican cheese dip).

Will this dip stay creamy as it cools?

It will start to harden as it cools so it is best, if you are not planning to eat it within about 10 minutes, to keep it on a warm setting in your crockpot.

How long will leftovers last in the fridge?

This easy white queso recipe will last for 3 to 4 days in the fridge.

I could eat this entire bowl by myself… it’s SO GOOD. It’s perfect for a game day appetizer but it’s also great on top of all our Mexican favorites. It’s even better than the cheese dip at our local restaurant.
