This hot crab dip is a zesty delight starring succulent crab meat. Cream cheese, mayo, and sour cream create a rich base, while diced green chilies add mild heat.

Lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and spices provide depth, and the blend of Parmesan and cheddar cheese creates an irresistible dip with a golden, crusty top.

You’ll need:

  • 12 ounces of crab meat
  • 4 ounces of cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup of mayo
  • ¼ cup of sour cream
  • 1 (4-ounce) can of diced green chilies
  • 2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • ¾ cup of parmesan cheese (save ¼ cup to sprinkle on top)
  • ¾ cup of cheddar cheese (save ¼ cup to sprinkle on top)

Substitutions And Additions

SPICE: You can also have fun dressing up this creamy dip recipe.

Are you a fan of spicy? Try adding fresh jalapeños, a few dashes of hot sauce, or a few chili flakes. Or, if you like, you can try adding other spices and flavors, too!

SOUR CREAM: Greek yogurt is a common substitute for sour cream and will work fine in this cheesy crab dip.

CRAB MEAT: It’s easy to make adjustments to this simple recipe. If canned or fresh crab meat is not your thing, just replace it with imitation crab meat.

Your family and friends won’t know or taste the difference.

MAYO: If you’re looking to cut down on mayo, use Greek yogurt or sour cream as a substitute. These options maintain creaminess while offering a slightly tangy flavor.

DICE GREEN CHILIES: Adjust the level of heat by choosing mild or hot diced green chilies, or replace them with diced jalapeños for an extra kick.

FRESH LEMON JUICE: Lime juice is a great alternative if you’re out of lemons or simply prefer the citrusy zing of limes.

PARMESAN CHEESE: Swap Parmesan with Asiago or Pecorino Romano for a similar salty, cheesy kick.

How To Make This Hot Crab Dip Recipe

Once you mix up this tasty dip, you will pop it in the oven to bake so that the cheese gets all melty before serving.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

I often end up doubling or tripling this recipe because it disappears so quickly.

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F.

STEP TWO: In a medium bowl, mix together the crab meat, cream cheese, mayo, sour cream, diced green chilies, and lemon juice. Stir well.

PRO TIP:

Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature so that you don’t end up with lumps in your dip.

You can have a variety of crackers, tortilla chips, pretzels, and any other creative ideas for dipping!

Even soft pretzels also make an interesting side.

This hot crab dip recipe is quick and easy to make. It goes great on a party table with some of our other hot dip recipes, including spinach artichoke dip and cheese dip.

Storage

Whether you want to make it ahead for a party or have leftovers to savor, here are some handy tips on how to store your crab dip.

MAKE AHEAD: If you want to get ahead of the game, you can prepare this hot crab dip a day in advance.

After mixing all the ingredients together, transfer the mixture into an airtight container.

Store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to bake it. Making it ahead won’t affect the quality; in fact, it can enhance the flavors as they meld together.

IN THE FRIDGE: Cover leftover crab dip with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to five days.

IN THE FREEZER: We do not recommend freezing this dip as it will become watery when thawed.
