HOT FUDGE SUNDAE CAKE INGREDIENTS

You will need:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder, divided
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 ¾ cups hot water

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

Batter: You can add some chopped nuts to the batter along with the chocolate chips for extra crunch. Or if you prefer, simply sprinkle some over the top once it is cooked.

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

STEP TWO: In an 8 x 8 glass baking dish, mix together flour, ¼ cup cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and baking powder.

STEP THREE: Mix in milk, butter, and vanilla extract until a thick batter forms.

STEP FOUR: Stir in chocolate chips and spread the batter evenly in the baking dish.

STEP FIVE: Combine remaining ¼ cup of cocoa powder and brown sugar then sprinkle over the batter.

STEP SIX: Pour hot water over the top of all ingredients.

STEP SEVEN: Bake for 40 minutes or until the cake has formed a dry top and a bubbly, pudding-like bottom.

STORAGE

IN THE FRIDGE: You can store the cake in the fridge for up to 5 days. Allow it to cool completely then put it in an airtight container.

IN THE FREEZER: You can freeze the cake itself without the ice cream or toppings. Wait until it is cooled and pop it in an airtight container. Freeze for up to 3 months and defrost thoroughly. You can then either reheat it and add the toppings or just top it cold.
