Butterscotch fudge is an indulgent treat that overflows with heavenly flavor. It’s intensely rich, with a melt-in-your-mouth creaminess.

The creamy texture slowly melts in your mouth. It’s sweet, but not too sweet, with the perfect amount of buttery richness to round it all off.

To make this decadent treat, you’ll need:

  • 2 (11-ounce) packages of butterscotch morsels (chips)
  • 1 (14-ounce) of sweetened condensed milk
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt

PRO TIP:

Be sure to use sweetened condensed milk, not evaporated milk, for this sweet treat. The fudge will not set if evaporated milk is used.

Substitutions And Additions

NUTS: You can add chopped nuts to this easy fudge recipe. Add up to a cup just before you spread the fudge mixture into the pan.

How To Make This Butterscotch Fudge Recipe

It’s amazing how just three ingredients can make such a rich treat.

All you need to do to make this tasty fudge is combine the butterscotch chips, condensed milk, and salt and microwave it in increments until it is melted.

Spread into a square baking pan and chill until set. Enjoy!

STEP ONE: Line an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper and set it aside.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

The parchment paper makes clean-up a snap, plus it makes it much easier to remove from your pan when it’s time to slice into squares.

STEP TWO: Add the butterscotch morsels, sweetened condensed milk, and salt to a medium-sized heat-safe bowl.

PRO TIP:

You can omit the ¼ teaspoon of salt, but that tiny amount of salt keeps the fudge from being overpoweringly sweet. You can also reduce the salt to ⅛ teaspoon.

STEP THREE: Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until completely melted and smooth. It took us two 30-second intervals to melt.

STEP FOUR: Evenly spread the butterscotch fudge mixture into the prepared pan.

PRO TIP:

To help cut this easy butterscotch fudge after chilling, score a grid on the top of the fudge when it is barely set but still warm.

STEP FIVE: Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours until firm. Slice into 25 servings (5×5-inch slices) before serving.

IN THE FRIDGE: Store any leftovers of this creamy fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

IN THE FREEZER: You can freeze the butterscotch fudge in a sealed container for up to 3 months. Allow the fudge to thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I fix grainy fudge?

If your homemade fudge turned out grainy, it could be because you heated the butterscotch chips up too fast. You can add a dash of water and mix well to help bring it back to a smooth consistency.

Does the fudge need to be refrigerated?

This easy recipe does need to be refrigerated, otherwise, it will get too soft sitting on the counter.

How do I slice chilled fudge easily?

To easily slice the fudge, dip a large sharp flat knife in boiling water, dry it completely, and cut one long slice (the heat will help the blade to glide through).
