Ground Beef And Potato Recipe Substitutions And Additions
GROUND TURKEY: Swap your beef for turkey. Lean ground turkey is a great source of healthy protein.
It’s lower in calories and saturated fat than ground beef while having almost the same amount of protein. Lean ground turkey is also rich in calcium.
EGG: Add in an egg, either scrambled to mix in or fried and laid over top. This can help bring out even more flavors in this dish.
VEGETABLES: You can add additional vegetables if you wish to make your hash even more hearty.
Green pepper, celery, or mushrooms would be tasty choices.
SPICE: If you want to spice up your hamburger hash a bit more, add chili powder to your seasoning mix.
How To Make Ground Beef And Potatoes Hash
This hearty dinner comes together in no time in a pan on the stove. Let’s have a look at how to make it.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
Always start your potatoes in cold water. If you add them directly to boiling water, the outsides will cook immediately while the insides will take longer, leaving you with some pieces that are still hard.
STEP ONE: Boil potatoes in water until fork-tender but not too soft or mushy, about five to seven minutes. Drain water, then set potatoes aside.
PRO TIP:
Use a fork to gently pierce the small chunks of potatoes while they are boiling. When the fork will pierce the potato easily but not break it apart, your potatoes are probably ready.
STEP TWO: In a large nonstick skillet over high heat, brown ground beef until no longer pink. Drain off excess grease.
Put cooked beef in a separate bowl and set aside.
STEP THREE: In the same, now empty, large skillet over medium heat, fry the vegetable oil, onion, potatoes, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
Toss well to evenly coat the potatoes and onions in seasoning.
Cook, stirring often with a wooden spoon or spatula, until the potatoes and onions have started to brown, about five minutes.
PRO TIP:
To bring out the flavor of your spices, rub them between your palms to break them up before adding them to your recipe. Just make sure your hands are clean and dry first!
STEP FOUR: Add ground beef back to the skillet and stir well to mix. Add cheese and stir while you let the cheese melt. Remove from the stovetop and serve hot.
How To Serve Ground Beef with Potatoes

Add a spoonful of sour cream on top of the melted cheese for added creaminess. I guarantee the whole family will be asking for more.

Just made this tonight. Followed recipe exactly. Turned out really good but didn’t look like picture lol. I did use turkey but wanna use hamburger next time. I may also use a suggestion of one of your commenters and add mushroom soup. I think it’d be even better that way. Thank you!!!
