Review RecipeFish Bowl Drink
Table of Contents
This trendy fish bowl drink is a super fun cocktail that’s refreshing and fruity. Combining blue curacao, coconut rum, vodka, and fizzy lemon-lime soda gives this drink a delicious flavor and vibrant blue hue that’s the perfect home for the candy fish swimming around.
Fish Bowl Drink Ingredients
You’re in for a sippin’ surprise that will take your taste buds on a wild ride. The fish bowl drink is not only visually stunning, but it’s also scrumptious.
A mix of fruity flavors and a medley of liquors make this drink a real winner.
You’ll need:
- 2 to 3 cups of ice cubes (or enough to fill the glass)
- 1 ounce of blue curacao liqueur
- 2 ounces of Malibu coconut rum
- 2 ounces of vodka
- Juice of ½ fresh lime (about 1 tablespoon)
- 12-ounce can of 7-Up or lemon-lime soda
- Swedish fish jelly candies for garnish
- Lemon and lime slices for garnish (optional)
- Large glass beads or marbles for the bottom of the goblet, washed and sterilized (optional)
PRO TIP:
The Swedish fish candy will sink to the bottom of the bowl. If you’d like them to appear to be swimming around the bowl, you have a couple of options. We used glass beads/vase filler. These work well to create a little lift on the bottom of the glass for the fish to rest on. You could also use clear rock candy, or some people pour a box of Nerds candy into the bottom of the fishbowl, though this may bleed the color and dissolve pretty quickly.
If you use non-edible filler, thoroughly sterilize and wash/rinse before adding it to the drink. Also, be sure you are using larger marbles/beads, so they do not get sucked up in the straw or create a choking hazard.
Substitutions And Additions
PINEAPPLE JUICE: Pineapple juice makes a great addition to this alcoholic beverage as well.
About 2 ounces of pineapple juice would be the right amount.
However, pineapple juice will tint your fish bowl drink slightly greener, and it also makes the water a bit murky (not crystal clear).
How To Make This Fish Bowl Drink Recipe
Using your cocktail shaker, you will mix up this tasty cocktail before adding it to a fancy glass.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
Our “fish bowl” glasses were large drink goblets with a 1.3-liter capacity. After filling it with ice and some glass beads along the bottom, this drink filled the glass perfectly.
To use a smaller glass, I recommend halving the blue curacao, coconut rum, vodka, and lime juice. Mix those together and pour into your serving glass, then top with soda to fill the glass. This will make a pretty standard drink as far as alcohol content goes. Our extra large drink would be considered “two drinks” worth with regard to alcohol content.
STEP ONE: Fill the goblet with ice and any beads/marbles you are using (see Pro Tip).
Place two or three Swedish fish candies to rest on top of the beads along the sides of the glass.
STEP TWO: In a cocktail shaker, combine blue curacao, coconut rum, vodka, and lime juice and stir or shake to combine.
STEP THREE: Pour the liquor mixture over the ice. Top with 7Up or lemon-lime soda to fill the goblet.
STEP FOUR: Garnish with lemon slices and lime slices.
STEP FIVE: Serve with fun drink umbrellas and straws.
PRO TIP:
This recipe makes one fish bowl alcoholic drink. It can easily be doubled or tripled to share with friends.
