These dirty snowmen will make up for the cold weather and warm you up with scoops of ice cream, rich hot cocoa, and creamy liqueur. We’ve combined warm childhood memories with a grown-up boozy twist to create this hot cocktail that’s just as comforting as it is delicious.

Dirty Snowmen Ingredients

You’ll need:

  • 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
  • 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream, ½ cup
  • ¼ cup of Kahlua
  • 1 tablespoon of dark crème de cacao liqueur 
  • 1 cup of hot chocolate
  • Whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, and/or additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles for garnish

Substitutions And Additions

KAHLUA: You can use any coffee-flavored liqueur for this dirty snowman drink – rum, coconut rum, chocolate vodka, Bailey’s, etc.

CHOCOLATE SYRUP: You can make your own if you don’t have any on hand.

Mix 1 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 cup of granulated sugar, 1 cup of cold water, ½ teaspoon of kosher salt, and 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.

Just stir it all together.

CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM: If you don’t have vanilla ice cream, you can use chocolate or a combination of both chocolate and vanilla in this boozy hot chocolate.

How To Make This Dirty Snowmen Recipe

STEP ONE: Place the chocolate syrup on a small plate. Then, turn the glass upside down and dip the rim of your glass in the chocolate.

STEP TWO: Dip your chocolate-coated rim into a shallow tray of chocolate sprinkles until it’s completely coated.

STEP THREE: Place one scoop of ice cream into your glass.

STEP FOUR: Add the Kahlua and crème de cacao to your glass.

This is a rich drink – the liquor taste is present, but not overpowering. You could add more alcohol if you’d like. The hot chocolate and ice cream are heavy enough to support a stronger drink.

STEP FIVE: Pour your hot chocolate over the ice cream and liquor.

PRO TIP:

Use a quality hot chocolate. I use the hot cocoa recipe on the Hershey’s cocoa powder container.

STEP SIX: Top off your yummy cocktail with whipped cream and any toppings you like.

Make This Drink A Mocktail

For a non-alcoholic alternative, you can mix one teaspoon of instant coffee or espresso powder with two tablespoons of syrup in place of the alcohol.

How To Serve

Prepare this dirty snowman cocktail just before serving. The hot chocolate and liquor amounts can be doubled, tripled, etc., and combined in advance, but pour over the scoop of ice cream just before serving.
