Watermelon Cocktail Ingredients

Watermelon Cocktail raw ingredients that are labeled

You’ll need:

  • 3 cups watermelon juice (I used the all-natural Simply brand)
  • 1 cup watermelon vodka (I used Smirnoff brand)
  • ¼ cup fresh lime juice
  • ¼ cup mint simple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons grenadine syrup
  • Wedges of fresh watermelon and fresh mint sprigs for garnish

For the Mint Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 sprigs (about 15 leaves) of fresh mint

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

VODKA: If you can not find watermelon-flavored vodka, then a good quality standard vodka will work in this sweet cocktail. I found many different brands of vodka make flavor-infused varieties, so your favorite brand will work great.

WATERMELON JUICE: If you can not find the bottled version of fresh watermelon juice at the grocery store, you can cube up a seedless watermelon (during watermelon season) and puree the watermelon cubes until it is a smooth juice. I suggest pouring the watermelon puree through a strainer to remove any pulp before using it to make this cocktail. Since fresh watermelon may be hard to find year-round, the bottled watermelon juice makes this an easy and refreshing cocktail to enjoy all year long.

How to Make This Watermelon Cocktail Recipe

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

This recipe makes four cocktails; if you want to make a smaller or larger batch, adjust the ingredients accordingly.

STEP ONE: In a 2 cup microwave-safe glass measuring cup, heat the sugar and water for 2 minutes. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.

STEP 2: Add the fresh mint leaves and allow the simple syrup to cool completely before using it in the recipe.

PRO TIP:

You will have extra mint simple syrup leftover from this recipe. It can be stored in a sealed mason jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. It is great to use in a number of other cocktails or non-alcoholic drinks and is great to use to sweeten iced teas as well.

STEP THREE: In a pitcher, combine the watermelon juice, watermelon vodka, fresh lime juice, mint simple syrup, and grenadine syrup. Stir until completely incorporated. Chill for 1 hour before serving.

PRO TIP:

This watermelon cocktail should be served chilled; therefore, it makes a great make-ahead cocktail for a party. If you do not want to wait for it to chill, you can serve it over ice.
