A Malibu Bay breeze has a sweet and tart flavor reminiscent of a tropical paradise. The pineapple juice brings out the sweetness, while the tart cranberry juice adds a refreshing touch.

The coconut rum enhances the drink with its creamy texture and hints of tropical flavors.

Once you mix Malibu with the fruit juices, you’ll create an incredibly delicious cocktail that will make you feel like you’re on vacation in no time.

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup of ice
  • 1½ ounces of 100% pineapple juice (Dole)
  • 1½ ounces of Malibu coconut rum
  • 1½ ounces of lite (50% less sugar) cranberry juice cocktail (Ocean Spray)
  • Garnish with a slice of lime

PRO TIP:

I like to keep the mini cans of 100% pineapple juice in my refrigerator for use when making drinks such as this one. If I get the big cartons, they tend to go bad before I can use them up.

Substitutions And Additions

CRANBERRY JUICE: You can use the original cranberry juice cocktail instead of the lite (50% less sugar) option in this drink recipe. You will want to note that this will make your drink very sweet.

Also, the higher sugar content in the standard cranberry juice cocktail tends to blend with the other drink ingredients and not float on the top quite as well.

The higher sugar-content liquids will sink to the bottom, so when layering your drink, you will want the less sugar-content liquids on top.

How To Make This Malibu Bay Breeze Recipe

With only three ingredients, this drink will be a quick and refreshing beverage to make. Below, we will show you the trick to creating the pretty layered look you see in the photos.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

Be sure to keep your ingredients in the refrigerator to keep them cold until you are ready to make your Malibu Bay breeze.

STEP ONE: Fill a 10-ounce beverage glass with ice (approximately 1 cup).

fill glass with ice

STEP TWO: Slowly add the pineapple juice to the ice-filled glass, followed by the Malibu rum.

pineapple juice added to the glass and then add malibu and coconut rum

STEP THREE: Place a small spoon, flipped upside down, into the glass at an angle just above the coconut rum.

Slowly pour the lite cranberry juice onto the center of the upside-down spoon, allowing the cranberry juice to layer on top of the pineapple juice and Malibu coconut rum.

Using the back of a spoon helps to disperse the liquid so that it does not mix with the other liquids as much.

PRO TIP:

I like to squeeze my lime slice into my drink before consuming it. I think that a little splash of tartness from the lime helps to cut the natural sweetness of this drink. This is not necessary but is tasty.

STEP FOUR: Garnish your glass with a slice of lime on the rim of the glass.

PRO TIP:

You will want to serve this Malibu Bay breeze drink while the layers are still separate. Before enjoying your drink, you will want to stir it with your straw or a cocktail spoon for the best flavor.

Storage

IN THE FRIDGE: This cocktail must be enjoyed immediately upon making it. As it sits, the ice will melt and will not keep the same consistency.

IN THE FREEZER: We don’t recommend freezing this cocktail. It is best made fresh.
