Not only does the cake mix give you a delicious, chewy texture, but this recipe also eliminates the need for making homemade brownies entirely from scratch.

Add chocolate chips to your batter, and you are sure to satisfy your chocolate craving with these delectable brownies from cake mix.

You’ll need:

  • 1 (15.25-ounce) box of chocolate cake mix (Betty Crocker Super Moist Devil’s Food)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup of vegetable oil
  • 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Substitutions and Additions

MIX-INS: You can add nuts if you like to these fudgy brownies. You can also add a tablespoon of espresso powder to deepen the chocolate flavor of the brownies.

CHOCOLATE CHIPS: If you would like a little something different, try white chocolate chips or butterscotch chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips in this great recipe.

How to Make This Cake Mix Brownies Recipe

Making these brownies from chocolate cake mix couldn’t be easier. You’ve got the best of both worlds with the convenience of a boxed cake mix combined with the ability to customize them with added mix-ins or frosting.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

You can also make these brownies in a round pan. The baking time will be the same if you use an 8-inch round pan. If you use a 9-inch round or square pan, the brownies will be thinner and bake up a bit faster, so take 2-3 minutes off the total cooking time.

STEP ONE: Preheat your oven to 350°F and prepare an 8×8 pan by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray and lining it with parchment paper.

PRO TIP:

If you don’t have parchment paper, just use pan spray. The parchment makes it easier to lift the chocolate brownies out of the pan.

STEP TWO: Combine the cake mix, eggs, and vegetable oil, in a large bowl.

STEP THREE: Mix the ingredients together until they are well combined.

STEP FOUR: If you want to add chocolate chips, fold them into the mixture.

STEP FIVE: Pour the brownie batter into the square baking pan.

STEP SIX: Bake the brownies for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the brownies comes out clean.

PRO TIP:

Oven temperatures vary and may need to be recalibrated periodically to ensure they are accurate. Make sure to check your brownies at the lower end of the recommended baking time.
