Since this cut over tends to get a little tuff for chewing could I add a little red wine to the cooking process

    • Layne Kangas says

Hi, Gerri – it wasn’t tough for us, but you could add red wine if you wanted to. I would recommend between 1/3 – 2/3 of a cup, depending on preference. Enjoy.

I never leave comments and I always flavor to my personal preference, BUT, I felt compelled to share that this recipe is absolutely amazing. It is so worth adding to your rotation and I highly recommend it. My step son has literally eaten it for every meal for 2 days straight and told me that he even dreamt about it lol. He’s not hard to please, however, he typically doesn’t eat leftovers so I know that’s saying something! Definitely a “staple” in our family dinner rotation now 🙂

I will say that I used stew meat for it in the instant pot And because of that, I cooked it for 23 mins…it melted in our mouth. Delicious. I also had to add more corn starch but that’s only because I 1.5 times the recipe so it was a guessing game. AND…our family likes or pretty thick – but the recipe was awesome and spot on!!!

    • Layne Kangas says

Hi, Alysha – we haven’t tried doing this as a slow cooker recipe yet so I’m not sure what adjustments would need to be made for it to turn out correctly. If you try, please let me know!

I made this in the crockpot on low for 8 hours. Threw it all in without cooking meat first. Added dissolved cornstarch as directed for the last 15 mins. Served over red bliss mashed potatoes….it was ridiculously good! And so easy!

This recipe is excellent. I typically double the recipe and I add three cans of sliced mushrooms and much more Worcestershire. Seasoning to taste.

I made this today. It was perfect, lots of gravy. I used stewing meat so increased the braising time to 5 hours, results were tender morsels of beef. I served it over pan fried potatoes and a bit of cheese for a a beef tip’s poutine.
