The first sip of this cocktail will thrill your taste buds as the crisp and slightly tart lime flavor gives way to a smooth burst of mint. 

The tequila adds a subtle kick to this drink, bringing it all together and creating a delightful cocktail everyone will love.

You’ll need:

  • 2 sprigs of fresh mint
  • 1½ ounces of top-shelf tequila
  • 1 ounce of triple sec
  • 2 ounces of fresh lime juice
  • ½ ounce of simple syrup
  • Coarse salt and lime wedge for the rims
  • Ice to fill the glass
  • Fresh lemon slices to garnish

PRO TIP:

Simple syrup can be purchased in most grocery stores, but it’s super easy to make yourself too. Combine 1 part water and 1 part sugar in a saucepan on the stove on medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool, and use it in your recipes. Keep it in the fridge for up to a couple of weeks. 

Substitutions And Additions

LIME JUICE: Always use freshly-squeezed lime juice rather than bottled lime juice or a sweet-and-sour mix. It tastes so much better.

TRIPLE SEC: The triple sec really balances the lime and mint and brings the flavors together. You can substitute it with another orange liqueur like Grand Marnier.

How To Make This Mint Margarita Recipe

To make a mint margarita, start by adding the mint, tequila, lime juice, simple syrup, and triple sec in a blender and blend until well combined.

Next, wet the rim of your glass with lime juice, dip it in coarse salt to coat the rim, and fill it with ice. Strain the mixture over the salted glass filled, garnish, and enjoy!!

This recipe only makes one margarita. If you’d prefer, you could double or triple the recipe and make an entire pitcher of margaritas to share with friends.  

STEP ONE: Place two sprigs of mint in a blender or food processor (a small-capacity blender works great for this).

The blender method was our favorite method for making this cocktail for both flavor and color. Straining the margarita removed most of the pieces of fresh mint leaves, but you can still see a few specks floating in the margarita, and the vibrant green color is beautiful.

STEP TWO: Add the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup to the blender.

STEP THREE: Blend for 10 to 15 seconds. You want to break down the mint, but over-blending will result in a deeper green-colored drink with an unbalanced flavor. Set aside.

STEP FOUR: Run a wedge of lime around the rim of the glass and then invert the glass on a small plate of coarse salt to coat the rim.

STEP FIVE: Fill the glass with ice.

STEP SIX: Strain the blended margarita through a sieve over the ice in the prepared glass.
