Ingredients
2sprigsfresh mint
1½ouncestop-shelf tequila
1ouncetriple sec
2ouncesfresh lime juice
½ouncesimple syrup
Coarse salt and lime wedge,for the rims
Ice,to fill the glass
Fresh lemon slices,to garnish
Instructions
Place two sprigs of mint in a blender or food processor (a small-capacity blender works great for this).
Add the tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and simple syrup to the blender.
Blend for 10 to 15 seconds. You want to break down the mint, but over-blending will result in a deeper green-colored drink with an unbalanced flavor. Set aside.
Run a wedge of lime around the rim of the glass and then invert the glass on a small plate of coarse salt to coat the rim.
Fill the glass with ice.
Strain the blended margarita through a sieve over the ice in the prepared glass.
Garnish the drink with a lemon slice and a sprig of mint.
Notes
Simple syrup can be purchased in most grocery stores, but it’s super easy to make yourself too. Combine 1 part water and 1 part sugar in a saucepan on the stove on medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool, and use it in your recipes. Keep it in the fridge for up to a couple of weeks.
This recipe only makes one margarita. If you’d prefer, you could double or triple the recipe and make an entire pitcher of margaritas to share with friends.
The blender method was our favorite method for making this cocktail for both flavor and color. Straining the margarita removed most of the pieces of fresh mint leaves, but you can still see a few specks floating in the margarita, and the vibrant green color is beautiful.
