  • 4 ripe avocados
  • ⅛ cup of lime juice, juice of 1 lime
  • Pinch of salt
  • ¼ teaspoon of cumin

Substitutions And Additions For This Easy Guacamole Recipe

OPTIONAL MIX-INS: This is such a versatile recipe, and there are so many options that you could add in based on your personal preferences.

Try pico de gallo or finely diced tomato, garlic, diced jalapeños, finely chopped red onion, or hot sauce.

Some southern restaurants even add in pomegranate seeds or anchovy paste.

SPICES: If you want to make your guacamole extra spicy, some additional chili powder or even a pinch of cayenne pepper will do the trick.

LEMON JUICE: You could substitute the lime juice with lemon juice in the guacamole if you prefer.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

Use ripe avocados for the best flavor. Avoid using unripe avocados. Avocados should give just slightly when squeezed gently.

Avoid avocados that feel fluid under the skin. A few brown spots in the avocado flesh are just fine and perfectly edible.

How To Make This Guacamole Recipe

STEP ONE: Slice each avocado in half by running the knife around the pit and twisting the two halves to open the avocado.

AS A DIP WITH TORTILLA CHIPS: The classic way to serve guacamole is with tortilla chips.

The crunchy texture of the chips complements the creaminess of the guacamole, while the saltiness of the chips enhances the flavors of the dip.

This is a perfect snack for parties or casual get-togethers.

TOPPING FOR TEX-MEX RECIPES: Guacamole can add a creamy, flavorful touch to tacos or burritos and other great Tex-Mex and Mexican recipes.

Try this restaurant-style guacamole on the side of our sheet pan nachos or enchilada cups. You could also try it on top of tacos or our taco bake.

SPREAD FOR TOAST: For a quick and healthy breakfast or snack, spread guacamole on a slice of toasted bread.

The creaminess of the guacamole pairs well with the crunchiness of the toast, creating a satisfying and nutritious meal.

ADDITION TO SALADS: Add a dollop of guacamole to your side salad for an extra boost of flavor and creaminess.

The freshness of the salad ingredients combined with the rich, savory taste of the guacamole makes for a delicious dish.

Storage

After enjoying the vibrant flavors of this homemade guacamole, you might find yourself with leftovers.

Don’t worry! With the right storage methods, you can keep your guacamole fresh and delicious for future enjoyment.

Here’s how to store your guacamole effectively…

MAKE AHEAD: If you’re planning a gathering or simply want to have your guacamole ready ahead of time, you can prepare the guacamole a day in advance.

To prevent browning, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole before refrigerating.

This will create a barrier that prevents air from reaching the guacamole, thus slowing down the oxidation process.

Some people claim that keeping an avocado pit in the guacamole will keep it from turning brown, but we have yet to find this effective.

IN THE FRIDGE: Guacamole can be stored in the refrigerator for one to two days. To store, place the guacamole in an airtight container and press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole.

This will help prevent the guacamole from turning brown. The top layer may darken slightly, but the guacamole underneath should remain bright green.

When you’re ready to serve it again, simply remove it about 30 minutes before serving to allow it to reach room temperature.

IN THE FREEZER: We do not recommend that you freeze guacamole due to texture changes.

The avocados may lose their creamy, buttery texture, and any added ingredients may also become mushy upon thawing.
