Fantasy Fudge Recipe Ingredients

Fantasy Fudge Recipe raw ingredients that are labeled

This perfect fudge recipe is made with the simplest ingredients like Marshmallow Creme, chocolate chips, margarine, and a few other pantry staples.

You’ll Need:

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup margarine (We used BlueBonnet brand)
  • ⅔ cup evaporated milk
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (We used Nestle Toll House brand)
  • 7-ounce jar marshmallow creme (We used Jet-Puff brand)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Fantasy Fudge Substitutions and Additions

This classic marshmallow fluff fudge recipe is delicious when made as-is, but if you need to replace an ingredient, you may be able to do so without compromising the recipe. Here are some ways you can adjust this recipe to use ingredients you have on hand, or if you want to change up the flavor.

Margarine: For a richer flavor, substitute margarine with butter. However, using butter may result in a slightly different texture compared to margarine.

Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips: You can experiment with different types of chocolate chips, such as milk chocolate or dark chocolate. You can also add a combination of different chocolate varieties for a more complex taste.

Marshmallow Creme: If Marshmallow Creme is not available, you can substitute it with an equal amount of marshmallow fluff.

Chopped Walnuts: Feel free to swap out walnuts for other nuts like pecans, almonds, or hazelnuts. You can also omit the nuts altogether for a nut-free version of the fudge.

More Mix-Ins and Additions:

  • Add a pinch of sea salt to the top of the wet fudge to enhance the chocolate flavor and provide a light contrast to the sweetness of the fudge.
  • To make this fudge Christmas-themed, sprinkle the top with crushed candy canes, or red and green sprinkles.
  • Add a splash of your favorite liquor, like Baileys, spiced rum, or peppermint schnapps to give the fudge a grown-up boozy flavor. Be careful to add no more than 1 ounce or the fudge may not set.
  • Stir in a handful of mini marshmallows for extra gooeyness and even more marshmallow flavor, perfect for die-hard marshmallow fans.
  • Use up your leftover holiday and Halloween candy by crushing candy bars and sprinkling them over the wet fudge. Give them a light press to help them set.
  • Add ¼ – ½  teaspoon of crushed chili flakes to the fudge with the marshmallow creme to highlight the sweetness of the fudge and make it taste even richer. It will also give it a mild, spiciness many people love.
  • Incorporate 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon or espresso powder to enhance the flavor of your fantasy fudge.

Keep in mind that any substitutions or additions may alter the taste and texture of the fudge, so it’s recommended to experiment in small batches to find the perfect combination.

How To Make This Fantasy Fudge Recipe

This fudge recipe with marshmallow cream is a breeze to make and guarantees a delectable treat for all. With our easy-to-follow steps, you’ll be enjoying creamy, chocolatey goodness in no time.

STEP ONE: Line the bottom and sides of your baking pan with parchment paper (or wax paper if needed). It’s important that the parchment paper overhangs the sides of the pan, so that you can easily lift your fudge out once it’s cooled.

PRO TIP: This recipe comes together very quickly. We highly recommend you measure and prepare your ingredients ahead of time so you don’t have to do any measuring while you’re cooking your fudge.

STEP TWO: Heat a heavy pot (3-4 quarts) over medium heat and add the granulated sugar, margarine, and evaporated milk. Stir so the mixture fully combines and cook for 5-8 minutes. Be sure to stir constantly so the mixture doesn’t burn, until it reaches a full rolling boil.

PRO TIP: Be very careful when making this fantasy fudge. Remember that you are working with extremely hot sugar. You should stir this mixture constantly to avoid burning the sugar, and practice extreme caution by not walking away from this fudge while it is boiling. This recipe should be left to the adults to make and the kids to enjoy eating!

STEP THREE: Set a timer and allow the mixture to cook at the hard boil stage for exactly five minutes. Stir constantly. Once five minutes has passed, remove the mixture from the heat.

STEP FOUR: Add the bag of chocolate chips to the hot sugar mixture. Stir to melt the chocolate chips, until the mixture is smooth.

STEP FIVE: Add the marshmallow cream and vanilla extract. Stir again until the fudge mixture is smooth and there are no remaining marshmallow streaks. Stir in the chopped walnuts.

STEP SIX: Pour the Fantasy Fudge into the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer. You can use a small, offset spatula to smooth out the thick fudge mixture. A silicone spatula will also work to spread the fudge into a smooth layer.

STEP SEVEN: Let the fudge cool completely at room temperature, then remove it from the pan.

PRO TIP: Don’t rush the process. Allow the fudge to cool completely. Otherwise, your fudge could end up too soft and sticky.

STEP EIGHT: Cut the fudge into 1×1 inch squares. Serve and enjoy!

PRO TIP: If your fudge is a bit difficult to cut, or to get really smooth edges, dip the knife in hot water to warm it. Then, wipe down the knife and use it to slice the fudge.

How To Serve Fantasy Fudge With Marshmallow Cream

Beyond just popping a piece of this Kraft Fantasy Fudge in your mouth, there are lots of ways to serve this sweet treat.

Classic Presentation: Serve the Fantasy Fudge on a decorative platter or dessert plate garnished with a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or a dusting of cocoa powder for an elegant touch. Pair it with a piping hot cup of coffee or a glass of cold milk for a timeless dessert experience.

Decadent Dessert Board: Create a stunning dessert board that includes sliced Fantasy Fudge alongside an assortment of fresh fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries, and sliced apples. Add a variety of nuts, dried fruits, and chocolate-covered pretzel bites for a beautiful and tasty spread.

Fudge Ice Cream: Sprinkle the top of your ice cream with chopped pieces of fudge along with a drizzle of hot fudge for an indulgent snack.

Fudge-Stuffed Desserts: Incorporate Fantasy Fudge into your favorite baked goods for an extra rich and chocolatey treat. Chop the fudge into small pieces and fold them into edible brownie batter or eggless cookie dough. For a peanut butter Fantasy Fudge treat, mix chunks into edible peanut butter cookie dough along with peanut butter chips. So yummy!

Fudge Fantasy Dessert Tray: Give your guests the royal treatment and make all kinds of delicious fudge. Try our Rolo fudge, tiger fudge, Baileys fudge, or Buckeye fudge. Cut into small pieces so your guests can try plenty of flavors.

Pairing Recommendations:

  • For a classic pairing, serve Fantasy Fudge with a tall glass of cold milk or a steaming cup of hot cocoa.
  • For a sophisticated dessert experience, pair the fudge with a glass of rich red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot, to complement its intense chocolate flavor.
  • For a refreshing contrast, serve the fudge with a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream or a dollop of homemade whipped cream.
  • For a festive touch, pair the fudge with a mug of spiced cider or a pumpkin spice latte during the holiday season.

How To Store Fantasy Fudge

Fantasy chocolate marshmallow fudge is the perfect make ahead recipe because of how well it keeps. Here’s how to make this recipe ahead of your event, store it, and even freeze it for later.

MAKE AHEAD: This marshmallow fluff fudge recipe is an excellent choice if you need to make your dessert ahead of time because it stores really well. After the fudge has cooled completely, remove it from the pan. Tightly cover the entire chunk of prepared fudge in plastic wrap, then a layer of aluminum foil. Store the fudge in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Remove it from the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature before slicing it into pieces.

AT ROOM TEMPERATURE: If you plan to store your fudge for a few days, you can keep it at room temperature in an airtight container or Ziploc bag.

IN THE FRIDGE: You can store your leftover fudge in the fridge for up to a week. Just set the pieces in an airtight container and store in the fridge. Eat cold or allow the pieces to come to room temperature before serving.

IN THE FREEZER: For even longer storage, wrap your fudge tightly in plastic wrap, then set it in a Ziploc bag or airtight container. Freeze for up to 2 months. Be sure to thaw the fudge on the counter before serving.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup margarine, BlueBonnet brand was used
  • cup evaporated milk
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips, Nestle Toll House brand used
  • 7 ounces marshmallow creme, Jet-Puff brand used
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  • Line a 9×13, straight-sided baking pan with parchment paper. Be sure to allow enough parchment paper to overhang the sides of the pan. This will make lifting the cooled fudge out of the pan easier for slicing.

  • Cook the sugar mixture for exactly 5 minutes at the hard boil stage while stirring constantly. Remove from the heat.
  • Add the semi-sweet chocolate chips to the hot sugar mixture and stir until the chips have melted and the mixture is smooth.
  • Add the marshmallow cream and vanilla extract. Stir again until the fudge mixture is smooth and no marshmallow streaks remain. Stir in the chopped walnuts.
  • Pour the fantasy fudge into the prepared 9×13 pan and spread it into an even layer. A small offset spatula works great to smooth out the thick fudge mixture.
  • Allow the fantasy fudge to cool completely before removing it from the pan and slicing it into 1×1 inch square pieces.

Notes

  • This fantasy fudge is a great treat to make ahead and freeze. You will need to wrap it in a layer of parchment paper, followed by tightly wrapping it in aluminum foil before freezing for up to 2 months. You can either freeze the individually cut squares or freeze the fudge in larger portion sizes.
  • Be sure to use good quality semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe. The original recipe called for the Nestle Toll House brand, but any high-quality chips will work fine.
  • Yes, margarine (a butter-flavored vegetable oil spread) is called for to use for this recipe. Use a good quality brand for the best results. There are many brands that come in stick form (just like butter) that make it very easy to bake with. You can use unsalted butter, but the flavor and texture will vary slightly from the original recipe.
  • The original recipe calls for Jet-Puff brand marshmallow creme, but you can substitute marshmallow fluff, and it will be just fine. Be sure that you are using a fresh jar of marshmallow creme for this recipe.
  • Chopped walnuts were also in the original recipe; however, if you prefer chopped pecans, you can certainly swap them out for the walnuts.
  • Be very careful when making this fantasy fudge. Remember that you are working with extremely hot sugar. You should stir this mixture constantly to avoid burning the sugar, and practice extreme caution by not walking away from this fudge while it is boiling. This recipe should be left to the adults to make and the kids to enjoy eating.
  • Prepare all your ingredients before getting started so you are not distracted by having to prep or measure anything, as this recipe comes together very quickly.
