Our Grinch-themed treat is a delightful blend of simple ingredients that come together to create a festive confection that’s sure to impress.

The star of our Grinch fudge is the white chocolate chips that provide the creamy base. The condensed milk adds a rich texture to the fudge, enhancing the sweetness of the white chocolate.

The green food coloring and red heart candy sprinkles add a festive touch to the Grinch fudge, making it a fun and eye-catching addition to your holiday dessert spread.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 3 cups of white chocolate chips
  • 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 4 tablespoons of salted butter, chilled and cubed
  • ¾ teaspoon of clear vanilla extract
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon of gel green food coloring
  • 25 extra-large red heart candy sprinkles

Substitutions And Additions

WHITE CHOCOLATE CHIPS: If you prefer a different type of chocolate, you can substitute white chocolate chips with milk or dark chocolate chips.

However, keep in mind that this will change the color and flavor of the fudge.

Be sure to use a good quality white chocolate chip for this recipe. The generic or cheaper brands do not melt as well and tend to seize up when melting.

Ghirardelli is a trusted brand that is easily found in most grocery stores in the baking aisle and is the brand I use most often.

CLEAR VANILLA EXTRACT: I use clear vanilla extract (also known as vanilla flavoring) when working with white chocolate.

The clear extract will not alter the color of the white chocolate when melted.

If you can not find the clear extract, you can certainly use a standard vanilla extract. It will still taste delicious.

GREEN GEL FOOD COLORING: I like to use the Americolor Brand gel food coloring for its consistency and variety of colors available. We used Electric Green #162.

You will need to note that different brands of green will yield different final results of the “Grinch” color of your fudge.

Be sure you are using a gel, not liquid, food coloring. Liquid-based food colors can alter the texture of your fudge or even cause the chocolate to seize up when mixed in.

RED HEART CANDY SPRINKLES: The Wilton brand JUMBO red heart candy sprinkles are approximately a half inch in diameter.

If your heart sprinkles are not that large, you could cut smaller serving-size pieces and place your hearts accordingly onto your warm fudge to garnish.

If you can’t find the extra-large red heart candy sprinkles, you can use any other type of red candy or sprinkle.

You could also use red M&Ms or even small pieces of maraschino cherries for a fruity twist.

How To Make This Grinch Fudge Recipe

Making Grinch fudge is a fun and straightforward process that’s perfect for a December baking session. Here’s a detailed guide on how to make this delightful treat:

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

Make sure your butter is chilled and cubed before you start.

STEP ONE: Line an 8×8 square baking dish with aluminum foil.

Allow the aluminum foil to overhang the sides of the pan.

Lightly spray the foil with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.

STEP TWO: In a medium saucepan, on medium-low heat, melt the white chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter.

Be sure to stir often to avoid burning the white chocolate chips. This should take five to six minutes.

PRO TIP:

Use a small plastic spatula or spoon to scrape out all the sweetened condensed milk from the can. If you just pour it out, you can inadvertently leave a couple of tablespoons in the can.

STEP THREE: Once the fudge mixture is smooth and fully melted, remove it from the heat.

Stir in the clear vanilla extract and the green gel food coloring.

Make sure to stir the fudge until no green streaks remain from the food coloring.

You want your Grinch fudge to be uniform in color.

STEP FOUR: Working quickly, pour the fudge into the prepared baking dish and spread it into an even layer.

STEP FIVE: Add five rows, of five each, of the extra-large red candy hearts.

The hearts should be spaced out about ½-¾ inches apart.

You want to make sure that when you slice your Grinch fudge into pieces, each square has a single heart on it.

STEP SIX: Allow your fudge to cool on the counter before placing it into the refrigerator to set up and chill fully.

PRO TIP:

Score the top of the fudge with a sharp knife before chilling to make cutting easier.

Storage

Storing Grinch fudge properly is crucial to maintaining its taste and texture. Here’s how to store this festive treat:

MAKE AHEAD: Grinch fudge can be made ahead of time, which is great if you’re planning for a party or holiday gathering during the busy time of year.

Once it’s set and cut into pieces, store it in an airtight container until you’re ready to serve it.

IN THE FRIDGE: This green fudge can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Be sure to keep it in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out.

The cool temperature of the fridge will keep the fudge firm and fresh.

IN THE FREEZER: If you want to store Grinch fudge for a longer period, you can freeze it.

Wrap it tightly with plastic wrap and store it in the freezer for up to two months.

However, when you thaw it in the refrigerator, it may cause the red heart candies to bleed from the added moisture from the freezer and the refrigerator.
