Playful elements include orange melting chocolates for carrot noses and red licorice scarves, adding sweetness and charm.
You’ll need:
- 12 ounces of regular melting chocolates
- 1½ teaspoons of shortening, divided into ½ teaspoon and 1 teaspoon
- 6 mini Oreo cookies
- 12 mini marshmallows
- 16 ounces of Nutter Butter cookies
- 8 ounces of cream cheese, room temperature
- 24 ounces of white melting chocolates
- 6 ounces of orange melting chocolates
- 2 pull-apart red licorice candies (pulled apart to make 12 scarves)
PRO TIP:
This would be a great project to do as a family, you could give each family member different colors to work with for their snowmen.
Substitutions And Additions
OREOS: You could also make the truffles with Oreos instead of Nutter Butters.
COLORS: Change up the decorating colors for fun customizations.
COCONUT: Add a little shredded coconut to the serving dish to make it look like they’re sitting in freshly fallen snow.
TOOTHPICKS: If your snowmen are having a hard time standing, you can use a toothpick in the middle to help prop them up.
How To Make This Snowmen Truffles Recipe
Let’s have a look at the steps for making these cute snowman treats.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
You could also make just snowmen faces instead of stacking the bodies together if you would prefer.
STEP ONE: To assemble the hats, melt the regular chocolate in a double boiler with half a teaspoon of shortening.
Then, twist the Oreos in half and scrape off the filling. Dip a mini marshmallow in the chocolate and place it on top of the Oreo.
Let chill in the refrigerator for ten minutes, then dip the whole hat in the chocolate.
Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let sit until ready to assemble.
STEP TWO: To make the snowmen, place the Nutter Butters in a food processor and pulse until fine biscuit crumbs.
STEP THREE: Pour into the large bowl of a stand mixer and add cream cheese. Mix until the dough comes together and forms a ball.
STEP FOUR: Scoop twelve 2-inch balls and roll them into even balls in the palm of your hands to form the bodies.
STEP FIVE: Scoop twelve 1-inch balls and roll them into even balls to form the heads.
STEP SIX: Place on a cookie tray lined with parchment paper and place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
STEP SEVEN: While the snowmen are freezing, add the white melting chocolate to a double boiler with one teaspoon of shortening. Stir as it starts to melt.
Once melted, keep the water simmering on low so the chocolate doesn’t burn.
PRO TIP:
Adding shortening helps the chocolate get smooth and even.
STEP EIGHT: Remove the snowmen from the freezer. Dip the heads in the chocolate and then place the smaller ball on the bodies.
Return to the prepared baking sheet and into the freezer to chill for 20 minutes.
STEP NINE: Remove from the freezer and dip the whole snowman in the white chocolate. Place the baking tray in the refrigerator to allow them to set.
STEP TEN: Transfer the regular chocolate to a piping bag or sandwich bag and cut just the tip off.
It needs to be a very small hole so it doesn’t rush out and to allow you to make small dots for the eyes, mouth, and buttons. Pipe on the eyes, mouth, buttons, and arms.
PRO TIP:
Icing pens would also work to draw the snowman’s face and arms if you have them.
STEP ELEVEN: Melt the orange candy melts and place it in a piping bag. Cut a very small tip off and pipe on the snowman’s carrot nose.
STEP TWELVE: Use the regular chocolate to glue the hats on top of each snowman. Tie the small piece of licorice around the neck of each snowman as the scarf.
How To Serve
These Christmas truffles would be adorable on the dessert table at a holiday party.
Serve these truffles alongside a steaming mug of hot cocoa. The rich, chocolatey truffles are the perfect companion to the warm, comforting cocoa.
They would also be a fun treat to give as a homemade gift to friends and neighbors this holiday season.
For a creative twist, use these truffles as ice cream toppers. Place a truffle on a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzle with hot fudge sauce, and sprinkle with colorful sprinkles.

Storage
Here’s how to store and savor these sweet treats:
MAKE AHEAD: If you’re planning ahead for a special occasion or want to get a head start on your holiday preparations, you can make the snowmen truffles in advance.
After shaping them into snowmen, arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure they’re not touching.
Place them in the freezer until they firm up, usually for about 30 minutes to an hour.
Once they’re firm, transfer them into an airtight container or a freezer-safe bag, with parchment paper between layers to prevent sticking.
These can be stored in the freezer for up to two months.
IN THE FRIDGE: While these snowmen technically don’t need to be refrigerated, they are fine at room temperature if you are giving them as gifts.
If you are making them ahead, you should store them in the fridge for up to four days so that none of the chocolate gets too warm.
IN THE FREEZER: These snowmen can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to a month.

These are so cute and would be great to make with my grandchildren. I’d use oreo cookies as I made the nutter butter truffles last year and they were not really what we all thought they would be. I think I would stick with all the same colors except use all different colors of the licorice for the scarf. More colorful that way.
