SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS
FLOUR: You can substitute gluten-free or whole-wheat flour for all-purpose flour if you prefer for this homemade chocolate cake recipe. Your texture may be slightly different, but the cake will still be delicious.
TOPPINGS: You can frost your moist cake with the frosting recipe in this post or choose a different frosting depending on your preference. Add chocolate chips, fresh berries, or other fun toppings on top of your frosting. You could also skip the frosting altogether and dust your cake with powdered sugar.
How To Make This Air Fryer Cake Recipe
STEP ONE: Preheat the air fryer to 320°F.
STEP TWO: Combine all of the wet and dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer on low.
STEP THREE: Pour the cake batter into the oven attachment of the air fryer that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.
PRO TIP:
Even if your cake pan is coated, it is still a good idea to spray it with cooking spray before you pour batter into it.
STEP FOUR: Place the baking pan in the air fryer basket and slide it into the air fryer.
STEP FIVE: Set the fryer timer to 25 minutes.
PRO TIP:
Make sure to check your air fryer manual for time guidelines for your specific air fryer model, as the baking time and temperatures vary depending on the type of air fryer you have.
STEP SIX: Once the timer rings, use a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake to see if it is done. If the cake does not spring back when touched, cook for another 5 minutes.
PRO TIP:
Keep a close eye on the cake. Since the air fryer cooks from the top, you don’t want a burnt top of your cake.
STEP SEVEN: Cool the cake on a cooling rack.
STEP EIGHT: Once your cake has cooled, ice the sides and top of the cake with frosting.
For the Frosting
STEP ONE: Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat on low speed until well blended.
STEP TWO: Spread frosting onto your cooled cake.
STEP THREE: Slice and serve your homemade cake.
How To Serve
Serve your delicious cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and hot fudge sauce for an indulgent treat. This yummy recipe would also be perfect for a birthday cake or other special occasion.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
While I haven’t tried it, I can imagine that since this air fryer cake recipe turns out so well, you could bake all kinds of air fryer desserts.
Air fryers are a great alternative to using the regular oven for many reasons. Air fryer recipes tend to cook faster than in the oven, don’t warm up the kitchen the way a regular oven would, and the best part is that clean-up is a snap!
This easy dessert can definitely be frozen for up to 2 months unfrosted. It is best to wait to frost until you are ready to serve your cake.

My air fryer doesnโt have a cake pan, so I used parchment paper…it worked but wasnโt as high as yours…but still good!!!
Will bee nice this summer to ‘bake’ a cake when itโs hot outside.

hi there, do you think I could bake this with my instant pot air fryer lid, and use the trivet and non stick cake pan for the instant pot? or do i have to use the air fryer bowl thing it came with? I have not baked in it yet and wanted to try this recipe ๐ thank you!
Layne Kangas says
I have only made it in the air fryer attachment, so I can’t say for sure how it would turn out using something else!

What is the cake size ? 7 x 7, 8 x 8 ? I have a Go Wise air fryer and a generic cake pan for it. A little confused to what size your “oven attachment ” is, thank you for your
information. Deb
Layne Kangas says
Hi, Debra – we don’t have this air fryer anymore but I believe it was 7×7 for this pan.
Gloria says
Really easy and delicious!
Chuck says
Not a review, but a question. I have a small off brand air fryer. Mine didn’t come with all the bells & whistles that other air fryers do. That aside, could I just use a regular 8-in square cake pan in my air fryer?
Layne Kangas says
Hi, Chuck – that should be fine!
Rhonda says
Can you use less flour if u dont have the whole cup thanks
Layne Kangas says
Hi, Rhonda – I’m not sure how it will turn out with different proportions.
