You’ll need:

For the Cake

  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup flour
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Frosting

  • 2 cups icing powdered sugar
  • 8 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

FLOUR: You can substitute gluten-free or whole-wheat flour for all-purpose flour if you prefer for this homemade chocolate cake recipe. Your texture may be slightly different, but the cake will still be delicious.

TOPPINGS: You can frost your moist cake with the frosting recipe in this post or choose a different frosting depending on your preference. Add chocolate chips, fresh berries, or other fun toppings on top of your frosting. You could also skip the frosting altogether and dust your cake with powdered sugar.

How To Make This Air Fryer Cake Recipe

STEP ONE: Preheat the air fryer to 320°F.

STEP TWO: Combine all of the wet and dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl using an electric mixer on low.

STEP THREE: Pour the cake batter into the oven attachment of the air fryer that has been sprayed with non-stick spray.

PRO TIP:

Even if your cake pan is coated, it is still a good idea to spray it with cooking spray before you pour batter into it.

STEP FOUR: Place the baking pan in the air fryer basket and slide it into the air fryer.

STEP FIVE: Set the fryer timer to 25 minutes.

PRO TIP:

Make sure to check your air fryer manual for time guidelines for your specific air fryer model, as the baking time and temperatures vary depending on the type of air fryer you have.

STEP SIX: Once the timer rings, use a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake to see if it is done. If the cake does not spring back when touched, cook for another 5 minutes.

PRO TIP:

Keep a close eye on the cake. Since the air fryer cooks from the top, you don’t want a burnt top of your cake.

STEP SEVEN: Cool the cake on a cooling rack.

STEP EIGHT: Once your cake has cooled, ice the sides and top of the cake with frosting.

For the Frosting

STEP ONE: Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and beat on low speed until well blended.

STEP TWO: Spread frosting onto your cooled cake.

STEP THREE: Slice and serve your homemade cake.

  5. Debra says

What is the cake size ? 7 x 7, 8 x 8 ? I have a Go Wise air fryer and a generic cake pan for it. A little confused to what size your “oven attachment ” is, thank you for your
    information. Deb

Not a review, but a question. I have a small off brand air fryer. Mine didn’t come with all the bells & whistles that other air fryers do. That aside, could I just use a regular 8-in square cake pan in my air fryer?
