ALABAMA WHITE SAUCE INGREDIENTS

You will need:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard
  • 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Pro Tip: You can make your own buttermilk using whole or 2% milk and lemon juice or distilled white vinegar. For every 1 cup of milk, stir in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar.

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

Hot Sauce: You can also add a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce or cayenne pepper if you like your sauce a little more on the hot and spicy side.

Paprika: If you want a little more of a “smoky” flavor, you can add a ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika to your spice ingredients for this sauce.

Sugar: In place of the granulated sugar, variations of this recipe use brown sugar instead. That would be a perfectly fine substitute for this sauce.
