S’mores Hand Pies:
Nothing says summertime to me like enjoying s’mores around the bonfire on a lazy summer evening. They are a must-have sweet treat that the whole family enjoys.
This fun and creative s’mores hand pie recipe is the perfect fun twist on traditional hand pies.
What’s a hand pie? If you’re not familiar, hand pies are a Southern specialty. A pastry is filled with either sweet or savory filling and then folded shut. You can bake them, fry them, or even grill them.
Our recipe starts with the perfect pastry crust and a few graham crackers. Next, the filling is all about melty chocolate and marshmallow.
My boys love that they can have their own mini, individual handheld pie with this recipe. This also makes them a great snack or dessert for a play date, potluck, or gathering.
Plus, they’re adorable! Mini things are always cute. 🙂
S’mores Hand Pies Ingredients You Will Need:
- 1 box refrigerated pie crust dough, room temperature
- ½ cup graham cracker crumbs
- ¼ cup sugar
- 3 Tbs butter, melted
- ½ cup marshmallow crème
- 2 Tbs cream cheese, softened
- 2 Tbs sugar
- ½ cup chocolate chips
How to Make S’mores Hand Pies
To make these cute little mini hand pies, you’ll start by preheating your oven to 425 degrees and lining a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
Next, unroll the pie crust and use a 3-inch round cutter to cut eight rounds from each crust, which will give you a total of 16 rounds.
Then, in a shallow container, like a pie plate, mix together the graham cracker crumbs and ¼ cup of sugar.
Brush both sides of eight rounds with the melted butter. Dip into the crumb mixture coating both sides and pressing the mixture lightly onto the round. Place the eight rounds on the parchment-lined baking sheet. This makes your flaky pastry crust!
For the filling, you will mix the marshmallow crème, softened cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of sugar and chocolate chips in a small bowl. You can save a few of the chocolate chips out to add on top of the filling if desired. Place a heaping tablespoon of filling onto each round on the cookie sheet. If you saved a few chocolate chips now is the time to place them on top of the filling.
Now take the remaining eight rounds and brush with the melted butter on both sides and coat in the graham cracker mixture. Place on top of the rounds with the filling and pinch the edges together to seal in the filling.
How to Bake
Bake 9-12 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store covered in the refrigerator.
You’ll be amazed at how yummy these are — the best!
how to freeze
Yes, just make sure to wrap well and store in an airtight container. You’ll want to make sure you warm them back up before serving so that they are melty and tasty again.
