You’ll need:

  • 1 cup of warm water (80 to 90°F)
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast
  • 3 cups of all-purpose flour + more for dusting
  • ½ tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon of garlic powder

Easy Pizza Dough substitutions

FLOUR: For a chewier pizza crust, you could substitute bread dough, but you will want to add a couple of extra tablespoons of water since bread flour contains more protein than all-purpose flour.

How to make Pizza Dough at Home

STEP ONE: In the warm water, dissolve the sugar and yeast. Let the yeast and water mixture sit for 3 to 5 minutes until bubbly.

STEP TWO: Pour the yeast mixture into the bowl of a stand mixer and add only 2 cups of flour and salt.

STEP THREE: Mix on low until the dough is just combined. Cover and let pizza dough rise at room temperature for 1 hour.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

If you don’t have a stand mixer, you can use a wooden spoon to combine the ingredients before covering and letting it rise.

mix in low until dough is combined

STEP FOUR: After the dough has risen, add olive oil, 1 cup of flour, and garlic powder.

Mix with a dough hook attachment until the dough forms a ball. If it’s too sticky, gradually add more flour.

PRO TIP:

If you aren’t using a stand mixer, once the dough is finished rising, you can knead it by hand on your floured work surface until it forms a smooth ball.

This will likely take somewhere between 4 to 6 minutes.

olive oil, flour, and garlic powder added to the dough then mixed together

STEP FIVE: Wrap the dough ball in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to use, or turn the dough out onto a floured surface.

Form a ball with the dough and cut it into four equal pieces. Set the three other balls of dough aside and cover until you’re ready for them.

PRO TIP:

Roll out your pizza dough with a rolling pin on a pizza pan or baking stone, add all your favorite toppings and mozzarella cheese, and bake for about 15 minutes (or until the cheese is melted and the crust is lightly brown).

It is recommended to bake pizza at a fairly high temperature; somewhere between 425°F and 475°F will give you the best results.

Hi, Linda – it would depend on the size. This recipe is for one large-style pizza, so I think that should work if you were making four small pizzas. Otherwise, I would increase the recipe. Enjoy!
