Summer Sundae Station

By  |

A gorgeous dessert bar allows each guest to create their own spectacular treat from delicious pies to sundaes topped with the best ever hot fudge recipe!

This post is sponsored by Walmart and SheKnows Media.

You guys, I love summer.

I also love dessert.

So you could say today’s idea is the melding of some passions of mine. 😉

ICE CREAM SUNDAE DESSERT BAR WITH HOMEMADE HOT FUDGE

Now that summer is finally upon us, I know our family will be doing a lot of entertaining.

We love having friends over, especially during the lazy days of summer.

While we are still busy, our pace definitely slows down during the summer and my list of have to’s is shorter.

I feel more relaxed and I’m able to enjoy kicking back with friends more easily.

While at Walmart recently, I was inspired to create this mini dessert bar — and I think it turned out so cute!

They have everything I need in one easy stop: from the bakery to the frozen food aisle to decoration ideas and plates and utensils.

I was able to pull together a delicious treat without running myself silly. Let me tell you: a relaxed, happy host is always better than frazzled.

Let someone else handle a little of the work and everyone wins!

Let’s chat about how you can create this easy idea yourself.

Choose Your Own Dessert Bar

In my dining room, I have this lovely gray dresser. It’s the perfect side bar.

Or in today’s case, the perfect dessert bar.

A chalkboard announces the options to guests and fun mini fabric pom poms give it pops of color.

Ice Cream Dessert Bar Ideas

My coffee mug rack became an ice cream cone rack.

The ice cream cones got their own bursts of flavor thanks to some chocolate and rainbow sprinkles. Life advice: you can never have enough sprinkles.

These glass cones make excellent spoon dispensers and fit in perfectly on the table.

White plastic spoons are dressed up for the occasion when dipped in color.

Ice Cream for Dessert Bar

I snagged clear glass dispensers with metal lids for the toppings. They holler classic diner decor to me and I love them.

A syrup container with a gorgeous pattern on the glass is just right for my best ever homemade hot fudge recipe. I’ll be sharing that with you in a moment.

A metal tub filled with ice helps keep the ice cream cold and ready to serve.

I offered three flavors to my guests: Vanilla, Chocolate Chip and Cookie Dough.

Walmart’s Great Value Ice Cream is made with fresh milk and cream. It’s excellent on its own and even better when paired with mini pies from their bakery or topped with sprinkles and homemade hot fudge!

Walmart Mini Pies

Walmart’s bakery offered lots of options including mini pies in apple, cherry and pecan.

Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

Their cookies were tasty served alone or to make into homemade ice cream sandwiches. Don’t forget the sprinkles on those either. 😉

I arranged cookies and the mini pies on cake stands at various heights.

Mini Pies for Dessert Bar

I love mini anything — these pies are so cute and oh so delicious.

Mini Fruit Pies

Now, let’s talk about my hot fudge recipe a little. It’s a family favorite — for good reason.

Homemade Hot Fudge Sundae

This easy homemade recipe is the perfect topping for any ice cream treat.

It takes only 10 minutes and a handful of ingredients to make. Let’s get started!

Hot Fudge Ingredients

You’ll need sugar, heavy cream, cocoa powder, butter, salt, vanilla, instant coffee and marshmallow fluff.

Best Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce

I’m not ashamed to say there are times I have eaten this straight from the jar with a spoon.

I’m confident once you try it, you’ll understand why. And you may even do the same thing yourself.

How to Make Hot Fudge

There was a time when I purchased hot fudge because I was intimidated to try making my own.

I’m glad I got over that because this hot fudge sauce is amazing. The best!!

I’m certain it’s the only recipe for hot fudge you’ll ever need.

To being, you’ll combine all the ingredients except for the marshmallow fluff in a medium pan.

Set over medium heat. As butter starts to melt, whisk together the ingredients until they are smooth. When the fudge starts to bubble along the edges, cook for an additional two minutes, stirring every few seconds.

Remove from heat and stir in the marshmallow fluff until it’s melted and smooth.

Let cool slightly before serving.

My boys were thrilled when they saw their favorite hot fudge sauce on the dessert table.

Homemade Fudge Sundaes

Rowen was anxious to make his own hot fudge sundae pronto. He got to work right away.

Homemade Hot Fudge Sauce

He was proud to scoop his own ice cream and show off his muscles to me.

Best Ever Fudge Sauce

This summer, I hope you enjoy time with friends. Especially with this delicious dessert bar loaded with goodies!

Such a fun idea for the summer months! Did you buy the glass cones at Walmart, too?
