Let’s Dish: About These Sliders

Main Ingredients: Hawaiian rolls, mayonnaise, cheddar cheese, sliced roast beef, butter, Dijon mustard, barbecue sauce, poppy seeds.
Quick Steps: Slice rolls, layer with mayonnaise, cheese, and roast beef; top with more cheese and roll tops; brush with butter mixture; bake.
Total Time & Yield: 45 minutes; 18 sliders.

Why Our Recipe

  • While some recipes rely solely on basic condiments, this version incorporates a blend of mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, and barbecue sauce, adding depth and a subtle tang that enhances the overall taste.
  • Additionally, the use of cheddar cheese provides a sharp contrast to the tender roast beef, unlike other recipes that often use milder cheeses like provolone or Swiss.
  • The buttery topping, infused with Dijon mustard and poppy seeds, adds a rich, flavorful crust to the soft Hawaiian rolls, elevating these sliders beyond the standard fare.

Roast Beef Sliders Ingredients

Roast Beef Sliders raw ingredients that are labeled

You’ll need:

  • 1 package Hawaiian rolls (18-count)
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 pound medium cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound sliced deli roast beef
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Key Ingredient Details

ROAST BEEF: Deli-sliced roast beef brings tender, savory richness with a melt-in-your-mouth texture that pairs perfectly with soft rolls and tangy toppings. High-quality slices offer the best flavor and tenderness.

HAWAIIAN ROLLS: Slightly sweet and fluffy, these rolls contrast beautifully with savory fillings, adding both softness and a touch of sweetness to each slider.

MEDIUM CHEDDAR CHEESE: This cheese adds a sharp, rich flavor that melts smoothly, creating a gooey layer that complements the roast beef perfectly.

POPPY SEEDS: These add a subtle, nutty crunch that enhances texture and contrasts nicely with the soft rolls and melted cheese.

Substitutions And Additions

CHEESE: You can opt for a different type of cheese if you prefer. Try slices of provolone cheese, swiss cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, or spicy jalapeño cheese.

TOPPINGS: French fried onions would add extra flavor and plenty of crunch to these roast beef sandwiches.

How To Make This Roast Beef Sliders Recipe

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F.

STEP TWO: Slice the whole sheet of Hawaiian sweet rolls in half, keeping the individual rolls attached to each other. Set the top half of the rolls aside.

STEP THREE: Place the rolls in a 9×13 glass baking dish.

STEP FOUR: Spread mayonnaise over the rolls.

STEP FIVE: Top with a generous layer of overlapping slices of cheddar cheese.

STEP SIX: Mound roast beef over the cheese layer.

STEP SEVEN: Top with another generous layer of cheddar cheese.

STEP EIGHT: Place the tops of the rolls over the prepared sliders.

STEP NINE: In a small bowl, whisk together melted butter, mustard, barbecue sauce, and poppy seeds.

STEP TEN: Drizzle butter mixture over the rolls and use a pastry brush to spread the mixture over the top of the buns.

Don’t skimp on the butter. It soaks into all the nooks and crannies and adds a ton of flavor to both the top and the bottom half of the slider buns.

STEP ELEVEN: Cover the baking pan with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and cook for about 5 minutes longer or until the top of the rolls are toasted and golden brown.

The rolls will toast on top quickly, so it is important to cover the full pan with a sheet of aluminum foil for the full 30 minutes to allow the cheese to melt all the way in the center of the dish.

Once the rolls are hot and melty all the way through, remove the foil and continue cooking for just a few moments to toast the tops of the buns.

Tender roast beef topped with melted cheddar cheese on a soft sweet roll make these baked roast beef sliders a fun choice anytime you need a quick meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 package Hawaiian rolls, 18-count
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 pound medium cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound sliced roast beef
  • ½ cup salted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Slice the whole sheet of Hawaiian rolls in half, keeping the rolls attached to each other. Set the top half of the rolls aside.
  • Place the rolls in a 9×13 glass baking dish.

  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • A full pound of roast beef slices is going to give you some nice layers of roast beef instead of just one layer for these sandwiches.
  • Sometimes grocery stores only have the 12-pack of rolls so you can buy 2 and use as many as you need to fill your baking dish.
  • Don’t skimp on the butter. It soaks into all the nooks and crannies and adds a ton of flavor to both the top and the bottom half of the slider buns.
  • The rolls will toast on top quickly, so it is important to cover the full pan with a sheet of aluminum foil for the full 30 minutes to allow the cheese to melt all the way in the center of the dish. This was so easy and so good. I rarely give 5 stars but this was a home run! Followed the recipe but didnโ€™t have the poppy seeds. Made it last night & family absolutely loved it. Is tonight too soon to have it again?
