This mango mojito boasts the freshness of fresh mint leaves, the complexity of gin, and the balanced sweetness of simple syrup. This delicious cocktail is the perfect drink for a hot summer day.

The star ingredient, mango juice, adds a burst of sweet and tangy flavor, while frozen mango chunks provide both garnish and a delightful surprise.

For this mango cocktail, you’ll need:

  • 8 fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1½ ounces of gin
  • 1 ounce of simple syrup
  • 1 ounce of mango juice
  • Ice cubes
  • 6-8 frozen mango chunks

PRO TIP:

If you can’t find frozen mango chunks in your local grocery stores, you can pick up fresh ripe mangos and cut them up yourself into chunks.

Store them in the freezer so you can enjoy this amazing drink all year long.

Mango Mojito Recipe Substitutions And Additions

The mango version of a traditional mojito offers a fruity spin on a beloved classic. There are plenty of fresh ingredients you can experiment with for our mango mojito cocktail.

MIX-INS: Since this easy favorite is homemade, you can also experiment with other mix-ins. I have friends who like their mojitos spicy and served with basil.

FRUIT: Many of your favorite fruits would be delicious in this versatile cocktail. Tropical fruits like papaya, pineapple, or coconut would be amazing.

It would be delicious to make a peach mojito, passion fruit mojito or blackberry mojito as well.

If you’re using canned fruits, be sure to drain them well.

JUICE: Just like adding other frozen fruit to your delicious drink, you can also either completely replace or mix together different juice flavors.

Try pineapple juice or passion fruit juice for a couple of options.

ALCOHOL: A traditional mojito uses white rum for the alcohol. If you prefer that to gin in this classic drink, you are welcome to substitute it. You could also use light rum, dark rum, or coconut rum.

NON-ALCOHOLIC: You could easily make this a virgin mojito by leaving out the alcohol from this recipe.

SODA: A classic mojito uses club soda or seltzer water for a bit of fizz in the drink. If you prefer your mango mojito a bit fizzy, then you can certainly add club soda or soda water as well.

For a sweeter drink, replace club soda with ginger ale. It adds a gentle spice that complements the mango and mint beautifully. Be mindful that this will increase the overall sweetness of the drink.

MANGO JUICE: If you have an abundance of mangos, instead of using store-bought mango juice, you could use fresh mango purée.

Just blend it up in the blender or food processor until it is smooth.

MINT LEAVES: Basil can be a unique substitute for fragrant mint leaves. It adds an unexpected but delightful flavor profile, especially when paired with mango. Start with a smaller amount than the recipe calls for mint, as basil has a stronger flavor.

FRESH LIME JUICE: Lemon juice can be used in place of fresh limes for a slightly different citrus note. The lemon pairs well with the mango, offering a fresher, brighter taste.

SUGAR: To adjust the sweetness to taste, you can use sugar, honey, or agave nectar. Start with a smaller amount and adjust based on preference.

ICE: Frozen mango chunks can be used instead of ice. They chill the drink while enhancing the mango flavor and preventing dilution.

GARNISH: Lime wedges are a classic garnishing option. You could also try using a slice of starfruit or a sprig of cilantro for an aesthetic and flavor twist. Starfruit adds a visual appeal, while cilantro introduces a fresh, herb note. You could even add little chunks of mango.

How To Make This Mango Mojito Recipe

Let’s have a look at shaking up this easy mojito, ready to sip in just a few minutes.

This favorite cocktail can be served in a big pitcher or as single cocktails.

You’ll only need a handful of ingredients and a wooden muddler to create one of our favorite summer drinks so let’s get started.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

You can easily double or half this recipe according to how many people you are serving.

STEP ONE: Place mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle to release the flavor.

PRO TIP:

Muddling is a technique where you gently mash herbs or fruit to release their juices.

This helps the flavors to bind with the alcohol better than simply using them whole.

You can use a cocktail muddler or a wooden spoon to make the muddled mint.

What Type of Glass to Use for a Mango Mojito

Mojitos are traditionally served in a highball glass. This type of glass is tall and straight-sided, typically holding about ten to 12 ounces.

The highball glass is ideal for mojitos for several reasons:

  1. Size: It provides enough room for the ice, mint leaves, lime, and other ingredients, along with the liquid components of the drink.
  2. Aesthetics: The clear glass showcases the drink’s appealing layers, the muddled mint leaves, and the vibrant color of the lime and any fruit additions, like mango.
  3. Ease of Drinking: The shape of the glass makes it easy to drink from and comfortable to hold.
  4. Stirring and Muddling: The height and width of the glass allow for easy muddling of the mint and lime at the bottom and provide enough space for stirring the drink to mix the flavors effectively.

If a highball glass is not available, a Collins glass, which is similar but slightly taller and narrower, can also be a good alternative.

In more casual settings, any tall glass will generally suffice. The key is to ensure that there is enough room to properly build the drink and enjoy its visual appeal.

You can also use a cosmopolitan martini glass like we did if you’re serving a crowd and pouring from a pitcher.

How To Serve a Mango Mojito

You could also serve this refreshing drink frozen as well — just combine the ingredients and blend before serving. It will make a beautiful puree.

After it’s blended, pour it into a serving glass and top it with mint. It is the perfect way to enjoy this drink on a hot day.

If you are serving this drink to a crowd, a pitcher of mango mojitos is the perfect choice. Add a few yummy appetizers on the side. Try our seven layer dip and sausage bites.
