Substitutions And Additions

BREAD: I used a multigrain for today’s sandwich, but there are lots of yummy bread options, including rye, wheat, white bread, sourdough bread, ciabatta, or croissant. You could even skip the toast and serve it on a waffle, bagel, or tortilla!

CHEESE: The cheese possibilities are literally endless for this made-from-scratch cheese toastie. Additional options include swiss cheese, gouda, brie, gruyère, Harvati, or even a combination of cheeses

MEAT: Deli ham is a favorite, but it’s not the only choice. You could use roast beef, turkey, or chicken instead.

ADDITIONAL TOPPINGS: If you want to kick it up a notch, you can make this the ultimate grilled ham and cheese by adding tomato, onions, avocado, pickles, or even bacon. You could also spread a little pimento cheese inside.

PRO TIP:

You could skip the stovetop grill, pan, or cast-iron skillet and use a panini press instead.

IN THE FREEZER: We don’t recommend freezing these sandwiches. They will become soggy if they are frozen and then thawed.
