This donut sandwich is the perfect blend of a sweet and savory breakfast sandwich. Soft, glazed donuts give these breakfast sandwiches a tender, and soft bite, while adding some melty cheese, sausage, and a scrambled egg omelet gives you a seriously decadent breakfast treat.

You’ll need:

  • 6 breakfast sausage patties
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of heavy cream
  • 6 slices of American cheese
  • 6 glazed donuts Krispy Kreme or another similar brand

Substitutions And Additions

SAUSAGE: Ham or strips of bacon would work just as well for your breakfast sandwich.

EGG: You could use a fried egg instead of scrambled on your sandwich, I would suggest that you make sure your yolk is cooked well enough that it doesn’t drip all over when you take a bite.

How To Make This Donut Sandwich Recipe

STEP ONE: In a frying pan over medium heat, cook your breakfast sausage patties until fully cooked, according to package or recipe directions.

STEP TWO: Remove the sausage patties to a paper towel-lined plate, and use the same pan to cook your eggs.

STEP THREE: Scramble the eggs with the heavy cream in a small bowl and pour the egg mixture into a thin layer in the pan. Cook for 2 minutes and flip. You may need to do 2 separate omelets to keep them thin enough.

STEP FOUR: Fold the omelets in three and cut them into squares that are about the same size as your donuts and sausage.

STEP FIVE: Slice the donuts in half across the middle and layer the egg patty, sausage, and a slice of American cheese on the bottom half of the donut.

OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS

You can grill the donut sandwiches as well, or leave them as-is.

STEP SIX: Serve your delicious sandwich warm.

PRO TIP:

If you are planning to save them for later or send them for breakfast on the go, wrap them in wax paper and store them in a Ziploc to keep them all together.

How To Serve This Donut Breakfast Sandwich

The perfect way to serve this glazed donut breakfast sandwich is nice and warm, along with a cold glass of orange juice or a delicious warm homemade pumpkin spiced latte.

Add more of our favorite breakfast dishes to your menu with our sausage breakfast casserole and cherry breakfast braid.

Storing This Donut Egg Sandwich

IN THE FRIDGE: Wrap the donut sandwiches in wax paper and store them for 1 to 2 days. They will get soggy anything beyond this.

IN THE FREEZER: We don’t recommend freezing this donut sandwich as it will get soggy once thawed.

Donut breakfast sandwiches are the perfect combination of sweet and salty deliciousness. At first glance, they look like bagel sandwiches, but on closer inspection, they are an unexpected and delicious treat served on sweet donut halves.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I make these ahead, and how do I warm them?

You could make these ahead of time. I would suggest microwaving them for a few seconds until they’re warmed through.

Could I use a different flavor of donuts?

Go crazy and pick whatever is your favorite donut flavor. Pumpkin spice donuts would add a fall twist, while any chocoholic would have fun with a chocolate-glazed donut.

Can I use a different type of meat in my sandwich?

Ham rounds or bacon strips would also work in your donut sandwich.
