Simple Homemade Caesar Salad

By  |

Crisp and fresh, this simple homemade Caesar salad is such a delicious recipe

Mike and I recently had the trip of a lifetime — incredible food, we had quiet moments and we had fun adventures.

The entire experience was magical and so enjoyable. AND it inspired so much food when I returned — like this “from scratch” Caesar salad recipe. More on that in a moment!

FROM SCRATCH CAESAR SALAD RECIPE

I’ve partnered with Princess Cruises to bring you these memories and a delicious recipe inspired by our trip.¬†

If you’re looking for a dream vacation, I would highly recommend doing an Alaskan cruise.

I’ve done lots of traveling over the years — it’s one of my favorite things in fact. But this cruise was one of the most unique trips I’ve taken and it’s definitely one that should be on everyone’s bucket list.

The landscape of Alaska is like nothing else I’ve seen.

We did whale watching, a wildlife safari and sea kayaking.

We were able to eat at a variety of amazing dining experiences.. the meals were truly incredible.

In fact, I’m going to share a homemade recipe with you in a minute that was inspired by our on board dining.

Alaska Cruise on the Island Princess

But first, let me tell you, I was really wowed by all the amenities the ship, the Island Princess, has to offer.

It truly was like a city in the middle of the water. There was anything you could hope for or imagine on board.

The gorgeous freshwater pools are the perfect place to relax on one of Alaska’s warmer summer afternoons. They offer plenty of loungers to sit while reading or listening to music. The hot tubs are also heavenly – especially on cooler nights. A girl could get used to this. ūüôā

If “indoor” pools are more your thing, they’ve got you covered there, too! This pool was under a glass roof but still offered plenty of great seating areas. The Sanctuary offered a private, adults only getaway where you can relax. They offered signature beverages, light meals and al fresco massages plus stewards to help with any need you have. Such an indulgent and wonderful experience!

I love a good spa experience.. it’s one of the treats I love indulging in for myself. Our ship’s spa had a great variety of treatments such as facials, aroma stone therapy massage and detoxifying wraps. I had a keratin treatment on my hair and LOVED it.

The Lotus Spa Fitness Center offers lots of different programs including personal training and classes such as Pilates, Yoga, Body Sculpt Boot Camp, and more! Outside, they had a basketball and volleyball court!

As I mentioned, there was tons of amazing food the entire journey.

I enjoyed a Caesar salad with several of my meals while we cruised. It was so delicious that I kept ordering it!

When we returned home, I started craving the salad I had enjoyed on vacation.

What Is In a Caesar Salad?

This basic salad is made of romaine lettuce and croutons dressed with lemon juice, olive oil, egg, Worcestershire sauce, anchovies, garlic, Dijon mustard, Parmesan cheese, and black pepper.

But basic doesn’t mean boring. This traditional salad offers big taste.

You can make it from scratch easily!

Caesar Salad Ingredients

For our version today, we’ll be using romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese and croutons.

Caesar Salad Ingredients

You can also dress it up by adding kale, grilled chicken, salmon, shrimp or even pasta to make it a complete meal instead of a starter.

Caesar Salad Dressing Ingredients

For the homemade dressing we’ll be using garlic, anchovy paste, lemon juice, Dijon mustard,¬†Worcestershire sauce, olive oil mayonnaise, olive oil,¬†Parmesan cheese, black pepper and salt.

How to Make a Caesar Salad

Cut off the base of the lettuce and pull apart all of the leaves. Wash thoroughly and allow them to dry.

Once dry, cut the lettuce in bite size pieces and combine with Parmesan cheese and croutons. Pour enough dressing over the salad mixture to evenly coat and toss.

How to Make Caesar Salad Dressing

While your lettuce leaves are drying, combine minced garlic, anchovy paste, lemon juice, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce in to a medium bowl.

Add mayo and oil, whisk until smooth. Add cheese, pepper, and salt. Set aside.

Serve immediately. Left over dressing can be stored in the fridge for up to one week.
