How To Make This Black Forest Icebox Cake Recipe
To make this decadent dessert, you’ll build layers of whipped cream, chocolate Oreo cookies, and cherry-filled cream cheese in a 9×9-inch square pan.
Once you are finished layering according to the directions below, you will pop the cake into the fridge to chill. Make sure you give it plenty of time, up to overnight, to chill to ensure all the layers are set.
STEP ONE: In the bowl of a stand mixer or using a medium-sized bowl and a handheld electric mixer on medium-high speed, beat together the cream cheese, granulated sugar, almond extract, and vanilla extract for 1½ to 2 minutes until completely incorporated and smooth.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
Be sure that the cream cheese is softened to room temperature before mixing. This will ensure a smooth cream cheese mixture layer.
STEP TWO: Fold in 1¼ cups of cherry pie filling.
STEP THREE: Fold in 3 cups of thawed whipped topping. Set it aside.
STEP FOUR: Spread ¼ cup of the thawed whipped topping in the bottom of a 9×9 baking dish.
STEP FIVE: Dip ½ of the chocolate Oreos, one at a time, in the whole milk. Line the dipped cookies on top of the bottom layer of whipped topping.
PRO TIP:
Dipping the Oreos in milk will soften them nicely so that they are the perfect texture in your cake.
STEP SIX: Use an offset spatula to spread ½ of the cream cheese cherry mixture over the bottom layer of Oreos.
STEP SEVEN: Repeat the milk and Oreos layer on top of the cream cheese mixture layer.
STEP EIGHT: Evenly spread the remaining ½ of the cream cheese mixture layer over the top of the cookies.
STEP NINE: Evenly spread the remaining whipped topping over the cream cheese mixture layer. Cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and chill in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours to overnight. Just before you are ready to serve, spread the remaining cherry pie filling on top of the whipped topping layer. Slice 4 slices x 3 slices and serve immediately.
PRO TIP:
Chilling overnight will allow all the flavors to mingle and blend together even more!

This is one of the most refreshing and delicious refrigerator cakes I have ever made. I served it to 11 women for a luncheon and they each loved it.
I wonder if left overs can be frozen?
