Our cheesy pull apart pizza bread is a fun (and easy!) alternative to pizza. The perfect party appetizer, lunch, or dinner it’s made with dough, pizza sauce, pepperoni, and plenty of cheese — all baked in a bundt pan.

PULL APART PIZZA BREAD INGREDIENTS

You will need: 

  • 2 (12-ounce) cans flaky biscuit dough 
  • 1 (16-ounce) block whole milk mozzarella cheese 
  • 1 cup thinly sliced pepperoni
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted 
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar pizza sauce

PRO TIP: We highly recommend using a good-quality block of mozzarella cheese. It will melt much better and give you more of that gooey pizza effect. Fresh mozzarella, cut into cubes, will also work well.

PRO TIP: We do not recommend using pizza crust dough for this recipe. It does not cook as evenly in the bundt pan and it sticks to the pan when trying to flip it out for serving. I have used the ‘butter’ and the ‘plain’ variety of the pop-can biscuits and they both taste great.

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

DIPPING SAUCE: While pizza sauce is a natural fit for the bread, you don’t need to stick with just that. Try other pizza dips such as ranch or blue cheese or even something that you might use with pasta such as a spicy arrabbiata or warm marinara sauce. 

MEATS: You can swap the pepperoni for any other type of meat for a variation. Salami, Canadian bacon, Italian sausage, chorizo, bacon, or cooked pancetta are great ideas. Mini pepperoni slices are also a great option! You could also go meat-free if you like. 

CHEESES: Mix it up and add Italian blend cheese, shredded cheddar, Colby, or even pepper jack.

HEAT: Add ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix for an added kick of spice.

VEGGIES: Like with any good pizza, your favorite toppings help make it special. You could add veggies to the mix if you’d like. I’d suggest green peppers, onions, banana peppers, or olives.

PRO TIP: For those that do not like pepperoni, and want a vegetable version, feel free to add your favorite pizza toppings like mushroom or onion slices. I suggest that you do not add any more than the 1 cup of add-ins so that your cook time remains consistent.

HOW TO MAKE THIS PULL APART PIZZA BREAD RECIPE

STEP ONE: Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

STEP TWO: In a small bowl combine your melted butter, olive oil, minced garlic, Italian seasoning and salt. Set aside.

STEP THREE: Open your cans of flaky biscuit dough and cut each of the biscuits into quarters.

STEP FOUR: Cut your block of mozzarella cheese into ¼ to ½ inch cubes. 

STEP FIVE: In the bottom of your greased bundt pan evenly layer half of your biscuit pieces. Make sure that you have a nice even single layer and do not pack the biscuit dough balls tightly because you want some of the cheese and butter to fill in the cracks.

STEP SIX: Spoon half of the melted garlic butter mixture evenly over the top of the dough layer.  

STEP SEVEN: Evenly distribute half of the mozzarella cheese cubes and finally half of the pepperoni slices.

STEP EIGHT: Repeat steps 5 to 7 with the remaining half of your ingredients.

STEP NINE: Cover your bundt pan with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.  

STEP TEN: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden brown.

STEP ELEVEN: Allow your pull-apart pizza bread to cool in the pan for 5 minutes then carefully flip the whole thing out onto a serving plate. You will want to gently turn bread back over on your serving dish so that the cheesy pepperoni topping is showing.  

STEP TWELVE: You can warm your pizza sauce and place it into a small bowl. You can place it in the center, or on the side, of your pull-apart pizza bread for people to dip their pieces into.

HOW TO SERVE

This easy pull apart pizza bread recipe is delicious and would be a great appetizer for a party. It would also be a fun twist on your weekly pizza and a movie night that the entire family will love. Add a fresh Caesar salad on the side for a complete meal.

STORAGE

IN THE FRIDGE: You can store any leftover pepperoni pizza pull-apart bread in the fridge for up to 2 days. Make sure it is in a container with a lid or cover it with foil to stop the bread going soggy. You can reheat individual portions in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds, add a side of pizza sauce and you have a tasty treat.

IN THE FREEZER: Once this savory monkey bread is cooled, you can freeze it for up to three months. Pop it in an airtight freezer bag or in a container with a lid. You can also freeze it before you cook it. Defrost it and then follow the process to finish cooking it and serving it.

What if I don’t have a bundt pan?

You can make this pull apart pizza bread in a 9×13-inch dish. You may have to adjust your baking time to less time but the recipe will still work.

Can I prepare this recipe ahead of time?

We would suggest baking it when you prepare it ahead of time and then reheating. Storing the raw biscuit dough with the mixture on it in the fridge may affect the texture of the biscuits.

Can I add other pizza toppings other than pepperoni?

You can add other toppings such as green peppers, mushrooms, olives, hot peppers. Try to limit the amount of mix-ins
