Cute and yummy, these pretzel Christmas treats – with M&M pretzel hugs – are the perfect festive holiday treat. It only takes a few minutes to layer salty pretzels, sweet Hershey’s hugs, and festive M&M’s together in this rich, sweet, and salty homemade snack.
M&M Pretzel Hugs Ingredients
You’ll need:
- 84 square mini pretzels
- 84 Hershey’s hugs chocolates, unwrapped
- 84 M&M’s, red and green
PRO TIP:
You can use any amount of the ingredients in equal numbers. You could easily make smaller or larger pretzel M&M batches.
Substitutions And Additions For Pretzel Christmas Treats
PRETZELS: You can use crossed or round pretzels if you prefer. I like the pretzel squares because they work well with the chocolate. Do not use butter-flavored pretzels.
HERSHEY’S HUGS: You could also use Rolos instead of Hershey’s chocolate hugs if you’d like.
You could also opt for classic milk chocolate Hershey kisses or peppermint Hershey’s kisses.
M&M’S: You can make this easy recipe year-round and use another color of M&M’s, like pastel for Easter, pink for Valentine’s Day, red, white, and blue for the 4th of July.
SPRINKLES: You could also top these Christmas pretzels with a dash of sprinkles for even more festive colors.
How To Make This M&M Pretzel Hugs Recipe
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 200°F. Unwrap the Hershey’s hugs and set them aside.
STEP TWO: Using a large baking sheet, place a silicone baking mat on the sheet. Place the pretzels on the mat in a single layer in rows.
You can put them all pretty in lines or just fit them all on there.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
You can also use parchment paper. The mat won’t slide though, so it is preferable.
STEP THREE: Place the unwrapped Hershey’s Hugs on the center of each pretzel.
Put the baking sheet into the oven and bake for five to six minutes or until the chocolate is soft but not melted completely.
PRO TIP:
The chocolates should still be standing and a bit shiny but not fully melted. You want them soft enough to push in the M&M’s. You can always pop them back into the oven for a minute more if you need to.
STEP FOUR: Remove the baking pan and gently push the M&M’s on top of each Hershey’s hug.
PRO TIP:
You can put more than one M&M on each mini pretzel if you’d like.
STEP FIVE: Let them cool for the chocolate to harden. You can also place them in the fridge or freezer if you’re in a hurry.
PRO TIP:
Be sure to let the chocolate set fully before you package or store them, otherwise they’ll smudge and stick.
