You’ll need:

  • 84 square mini pretzels
  • 84 Hershey’s hugs chocolates, unwrapped
  • 84 M&M’s, red and green

PRO TIP:

You can use any amount of the ingredients in equal numbers. You could easily make smaller or larger pretzel M&M batches.

Substitutions And Additions For Pretzel Christmas Treats

PRETZELS: You can use crossed or round pretzels if you prefer. I like the pretzel squares because they work well with the chocolate. Do not use butter-flavored pretzels.

HERSHEY’S HUGS: You could also use Rolos instead of Hershey’s chocolate hugs if you’d like.

You could also opt for classic milk chocolate Hershey kisses or peppermint Hershey’s kisses.

M&M’S: You can make this easy recipe year-round and use another color of M&M’s, like pastel for Easter, pink for Valentine’s Day, red, white, and blue for the 4th of July.

SPRINKLES: You could also top these Christmas pretzels with a dash of sprinkles for even more festive colors.

How To Make This M&M Pretzel Hugs Recipe

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 200°F. Unwrap the Hershey’s hugs and set them aside.

STEP TWO: Using a large baking sheet, place a silicone baking mat on the sheet. Place the pretzels on the mat in a single layer in rows.

You can put them all pretty in lines or just fit them all on there.

You can also use parchment paper. The mat won’t slide though, so it is preferable.

STEP THREE: Place the unwrapped Hershey’s Hugs on the center of each pretzel.

Put the baking sheet into the oven and bake for five to six minutes or until the chocolate is soft but not melted completely.

PRO TIP:

The chocolates should still be standing and a bit shiny but not fully melted. You want them soft enough to push in the M&M’s. You can always pop them back into the oven for a minute more if you need to.

STEP FOUR: Remove the baking pan and gently push the M&M’s on top of each Hershey’s hug.

PRO TIP:

You can put more than one M&M on each mini pretzel if you’d like.

STEP FIVE: Let them cool for the chocolate to harden. You can also place them in the fridge or freezer if you’re in a hurry.

PRO TIP:

Be sure to let the chocolate set fully before you package or store them, otherwise they’ll smudge and stick.

How To Serve Pretzel Christmas Treats

These hugs candies are colorful and delicious, perfect for serving at Christmas parties or as an edible gift to friends, neighbors, and teachers.

Add them to a gift box along with our peanut brittle and gingerbread fudge.

These reindeer pretzels and snowmen truffles are two more adorable treats to make this holiday season.

Storage

IN THE FRIDGE: You can store this easy treat for a week or two in an airtight container in the fridge.

IN THE FREEZER: We don’t recommend freezing this treat as the pretzels may get soggy once thawed.

This simple recipe doesn’t freeze very well, as the pretzels would get soggy. We’d recommend making them fresh.

If you prefer something other than pretzels for this recipe, you could use graham crackers, cookies, or other similar-sized treats.
