Main Ingredients: Whole milk, banana pudding cream moonshine, instant banana cream pudding mix, whipped topping, chocolate sauce, banana slices, maraschino cherries.
Quick Steps: Mix milk, moonshine, and pudding; pour into shot glass; refrigerate; garnish.
Total Time & Yield: 2 hours 5 minutes; makes 9 shots.

Why This Recipe

  • Our banana split jello shot recipe stands out for its use of banana pudding cream moonshine, which adds a rich, authentic flavor compared to other recipes that rely on banana liqueur.
  • In addition, many recipes use plain vodka or other alcohols, which can overpower the delicate banana flavor, but this one ensures a smooth, balanced taste throughout.
  • The inclusion of whipped topping and garnishes like fresh banana slices and maraschino cherries gives a true banana split experience in both taste and appearance. While some recipes may opt for shortcuts with fewer garnishes or instant mixes, this version offers a more flavorful and visually appealing treat, perfect for parties.
  • The attention to texture and flavor balance ensures that these jello shots are creamy, flavorful, and easy to make. As a result, this recipe a crowd favorite for any occasion.

Banana Split Jello Shots Ingredients

Banana Split Jello Shots raw ingredients that are labeled

Topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, rainbow sprinkles, fresh banana slices, and a maraschino cherry, each taste of these shots is a whimsical blend of textures and flavors that capture the essence of a classic dessert.

You’ll need:

For The Banana Split Shots:

  • ¾ cup of whole milk, very cold
  • ¾ cup of banana pudding cream moonshine (I used Ole Smoky brand)
  • 3.4-ounce box of instant banana cream-flavored pudding mix

For The Garnish:

  • Squirt whipped topping (I used extra creamy Reddi Whip brand)
  • Chocolate sauce dessert topping in a squirt bottle (I used the Ghirardelli brand)
  • Rainbow sprinkles
  • Fresh banana slices, ¼-inch thick
  • Maraschino cherry, drained of juice and patted dry
  • 10 (2-ounce) plastic shot glasses

You can substitute the jello shot cups for 2-ounce condiment cups with lids. These plastic cups actually work great if you plan on making your banana split jello shots in advance.

This will allow you to cover each with a lid and easily stack them in your refrigerator until you are ready to garnish and serve them. You can find these in your grocery store, where you find all the disposable storage containers.

Substitutions And Additions

BANANA MOONSHINE: You can usually find banana pudding-flavored moonshine at the local liquor stores. You can also order the banana pudding cream moonshine directly from the Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine company if needed.

Bbut you can also substitute the moonshine for a good quality banana liqueur (crème de banane).

Banana pudding-flavored moonshine has a milky look to it, whereas banana liqueurs are typically clear or have a yellow color. This will just make your banana split jello shots differ slightly in color.

If you substitute a banana liqueur, we’d suggest reducing the amount to ½ cup and increasing your amount of whole milk to one cup. Straight banana liqueur has a stronger flavor profile than the sweet banana flavor of the banana pudding cream moonshine.

PUDDING: You can substitute banana cream pudding mix with either vanilla pudding or white chocolate flavored pudding mixes.

Make sure you are using instant pudding mix no matter which flavor you choose. The cook-and-serve will not set up properly if you try to use it in this recipe.

WHIPPED CREAM: You can either make your own homemade whipped cream, use the store-bought whipped cream in the spray can, or add a scoop of Cool Whip on top.

How To Make This Banana Split Jello Shots Recipe

If you are making this yummy jello shot recipe for a party and need lots of shots, you can easily double this recipe.

STEP ONE: Set out 10 (2-ounce) jello shot cups onto a rimmed tray or platter. Setting the jello shot containers on a baking tray will help make it easier to transport them to the fridge for chilling.

Set aside.

STEP TWO: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole milk, banana pudding cream moonshine, and instant banana cream flavored pudding mix.

Whisk for two minutes or until it is just starting to set up but is still pourable.

STEP THREE: Fill each of the jello shot cups with the banana split pudding mix.

STEP FOUR: Refrigerate for a minimum of two hours, or up to overnight, to allow the pudding to set fully.

STEP FIVE: Garnish each banana split jello shot with a squirt of whipped topping, a drizzle of chocolate sauce, rainbow sprinkles, a fresh banana slice, and a maraschino cherry.

Make sure you drain your maraschino cherries well and lightly pat them dry with a paper towel. If they are too wet when you use them to garnish, then the moisture will melt your whipped topping.

Storage

IN THE FRIDGE: It is best to serve these banana split pudding shots while they are chilled and immediately after garnishing them.

You can make these ahead and store them, with their lids on, in the refrigerator for up to five days before garnishing and serving them.

IN THE FREEZER: We don’t recommend trying to freeze these jello shots. They won’t freeze well and may lose their creamy texture.
