Table of Contents
Elevate your snacking game with our irresistible homemade Take 5 pretzel bites. These mini treats combine the crunchy goodness of pretzels, creamy peanut butter, indulgent caramel, and luscious chocolate, all in one mouth-watering bite.
Take 5 Pretzel Bites Ingredients
The pretzels form a crispy and salty foundation, while the creamy peanut butter adds a nutty richness to this treat.
The caramel brings a delightful gooey sweetness, and the chocolate chips add a luscious finishing touch.
Combining these ingredients results in an unforgettable taste experience, making the Take 5 pretzel bites a true crowd-pleaser.
You’ll need:
- 70 square-shaped pretzels (I used Snyder’s “snaps” pretzels), divided into two sets of 35
- ⅔ cup of crunchy peanut butter
- 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar
- 25 unwrapped caramels (I used Kraft individually wrapped caramels)
- 2½ tablespoons of heavy cream
- 3 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Substitutions And Additions
PRETZELS: While we used plain Snyder’s snaps for this recipe, feel free to experiment with different pretzel varieties.
You can use butter snaps for a more buttery flavor or even try pretzel rods for larger pretzel bites.
PEANUT BUTTER: If you prefer a smoother texture, substitute creamy peanut butter for a crunchy one. You can also add a twist by topping the peanut butter layer with a few peanut halves.
CARAMELS: Instead of using unwrapped caramels, caramel bits work just as well.
You’ll need around ⅓ cup + 1 tablespoon of caramel bits, and keep in mind that one cup of caramel bits is equivalent to 24 full-size caramels.
CHOCOLATE COATING: If you’re looking for a different chocolate flavor, consider using chocolate almond bark as a substitute for chocolate chips and vegetable oil.
The almond flavor can complement the other ingredients beautifully.
How To Make This Take 5 Pretzel Bites Recipe
Let’s get started making these addictive little bites of sweetness.
STEP ONE: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
If you have a silicone baking mat, it is an excellent alternative to parchment paper as it won’t slide around at all on your baking sheet.
STEP TWO: Lay 35 of the pretzels on the prepared baking sheet.
STEP THREE: Add the peanut butter and powdered sugar to a small mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
Continue stirring until the powdered sugar and peanut butter are completely incorporated.
STEP FOUR: Spread about one teaspoon of the peanut butter mixture on each of the 35 pretzels.
Place the cookie sheet in the freezer for ten minutes to firm up the peanut butter mixture.
While the peanut butter pretzels are in the freezer, make the caramel mixture.
STEP FIVE: Add the unwrapped caramels and heavy cream to a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 45 seconds.
Stir and continue to microwave in 30-second intervals until the caramels are melted and smooth. Set it aside to cool off. This should only take a couple of minutes.
STEP SIX: Remove the pretzels from the freezer. Spoon a half teaspoon of the caramel mixture into the center of each peanut butter pretzel.
Top the caramel layer with the remaining 35 pretzels.
You may need to work in four to five pretzel batches when you place the top pretzel over the caramel to ensure the pretzel sticks to the caramel.
Return the cookie sheet to the freezer for ten minutes to firm up. While the peanut butter caramel pretzels are in the freezer, make the chocolate candy covering.
STEP SEVEN: Add the chocolate chips and vegetable oil to a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl.
Microwave for 45 seconds, stir, and continue to microwave in 30-second intervals until the chocolate is completely melted.
STEP EIGHT: Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.
STEP NINE: Remove the baking sheet from the freezer. Place a pretzel “sandwich” into the chocolate.
Use a fork to flip the pretzel over and completely coat the pretzel. Tap the fork gently against the bowl to remove just a bit of the excess chocolate.
Place the coated pretzels on the second prepared baking sheet. Repeat for the remaining pretzels.
Once all the pretzels are coated, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to allow the coated pretzels to firm up.
You can drizzle a bit of the leftover melted chocolate mixture over the top of the candies.
PRO TIP:
Allowing the pretzels to firm up may take anywhere from 15-30 minutes, depending on how warm your kitchen is while making the pretzels.
