Table of Contents
Flavorful beef kabobs are the perfect easy summer meal. Lean tender steak is marinated and then skewered with bell peppers and onions before grilling, and when paired with a classic potato salad, you’ll have an easy dinner everyone will love!
Beef Kabobs Ingredients
The savory flavors of the beef are perfectly complemented by the smoky char of the grill, resulting in a dish that is bursting with flavor and texture.
Each bite is a combination of tender, juicy meat and the robust flavors of the marinade, creating a mouthwatering flavor explosion that is hard to resist.
You’ll need:
For The Kabobs:
- 2 pounds of lean steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 3 varied colored bell peppers, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1 red onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Wooden or metal skewers
PRO TIP:
Be sure to cut the steak pieces and veggies the same size so they grill evenly.
For The Marinade:
- ¼ cup of soy sauce
- ¼ cup of olive oil
- ¼ cup of Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons of minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning
- 1 teaspoon of pepper
- ½ teaspoon of salt
Substitutions And Additions
STEAK: There are several different cuts of steak you can use. Try top sirloin steak, beef tenderloin, New York Strip steak, or ribeye.
LEMON JUICE: If you don’t have fresh lemons on hand, you can use lime juice instead. Lime juice adds a tangy and refreshing twist to the marinade, complementing the other flavors.
VEGGIES: Green peppers and red bell peppers are an easy favorite, but you could also add squash, zucchini, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, or even chunks of pineapple to your skewers.
How To Make This Beef Kabobs Recipe
Make sure to give the meat time to marinate in the fridge so that it soaks up all of those savory flavors before grilling.
STEP ONE: Mix the marinade ingredients together in a small bowl or a Ziploc freezer bag. Remove ¼ cup of the marinade to use later on the vegetables when ready to grill.
STEP TWO: Add the meat pieces to the kabob marinade (whether in a bag or bowl) and marinate for one hour or up to 24 hours.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
For the yummiest delicious flavor, marinate the meat for 24 hours. Less time works as well, but the more time you marinate for, the better it will taste.
STEP THREE: Preheat the outdoor grill to high heat.
STEP FOUR: Place the reserved ¼ cup of marinade in a large bowl. Add the pepper and red onions and season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir to mix well.
STEP FIVE: Thread your skewers with the beef chunks, peppers, and onions, alternating down the skewer.
PRO TIP:
If using wooden bamboo skewers, make sure to soak them in water before using them for grilling.
STEP SIX: Place the kabobs directly over the heat on the grill and reduce the heat to medium-high heat.
STEP SEVEN: Grill for 8 to 10 minutes, turning the skewers every 2 to 3 minutes until the meat is cooked to the desired doneness and the vegetables have a slight char around the edges.
STEP EIGHT: Remove from the hot grill and serve.

Storing This Beef Kabob Recipe
Here’s what you need to know about storing your shish kabobs to ensure they stay fresh and flavorful.
MAKE AHEAD: If you’re looking to save time on the day of your meal, you can definitely prepare these shish kabobs ahead of time. Assemble the skewers with your desired meat, vegetables, and seasonings, and place them in an airtight container or wrap them tightly with plastic wrap. Refrigerate the skewers until you’re ready to cook them. However, it’s best to marinate the ingredients just before cooking for optimal flavor.
IN THE FRIDGE: Store any leftover grilled steak kabobs in the fridge for up to three days in a Ziplock bag or airtight container.
IN THE FREEZER: Not all vegetables, cooked or raw, freeze well, and therefore these beef skewers may not be the best recipe to freeze. Your veggies may turn out mushy once you thaw them.
Juicy steak kabobs are a fun and tasty way to enjoy the summer grilling season. The great flavor of the marinated steak and the fresh vegetables can be served with cold salads on the side for a delicious meal. This beef kabobs recipe does not require a lot of prep which makes them easy to whip up quickly!
Frequently Asked Questions
This easy recipe will also work in the oven. Put all the kabobs on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake in the oven at 350°F for about 20 to 30 minutes or until the internal temperature of the meat reaches 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, 150°F for medium-well.
Wooden skewers need to be soaked so that they don’t catch fire while you are cooking them on the grill. If they do, your food might fall off and end up at the bottom of the barbecue.
My favorites include cherry or grape tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, red onions, and zucchini. Grilled pineapple is also out-of-this-world delicious!

Hi, Lin – that should work ok!

Oh! This reminds me of Turkish kebobs.
I’d have to add alot of hot sauce and pilaf rice on the side.
I’m drooling just thinking about it.

I appreciate all your recipes. I like the fact I can make the kebabs in the oven since I donโt have a grill and donโt know how to use one. Please continue posting main dish recipes.
