How to Make This Pizza Grilled Cheese Recipe
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
The best way to get your cheese to melt is to let it sit out at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes before you start making these.
STEP ONE: Add the melted butter, extra virgin olive oil, Italian seasoning, and onion powder to a small bowl. Whisk, or stir, to combine.
STEP TWO: Heat a 10 to 12-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat.
PRO TIP:
This would also be fantastic grilled in a panini press instead of on the stovetop.
STEP THREE: Generously brush one side of 2 pieces of bread with the butter mixture.
STEP FOUR: Place the two pieces of bread in the skillet, butter side down.
STEP FIVE: Carefully spoon and spread 2 tablespoons of the pizza sauce over the bread slices in the skillet.
STEP SIX: Lay 1 slice of the provolone on top of the sauce layer.
STEP SEVEN: Sprinkle ¼ cup of the shredded mozzarella over the provolone layer.
STEP EIGHT: Lay the 12 slices of pepperoni over each sandwich.
STEP NINE: Sprinkle ¼ cup more of the shredded mozzarella over the pepperoni layer.
STEP TEN: Lay 1 slice of provolone on top of the top mozzarella layer.
STEP ELEVEN: Place the top slices of bread on the top provolone layer.
STEP TWELVE: Generously brush the top slices of bread with the butter mixture.
STEP THIRTEEN: Cook each sandwich for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown. Be sure to keep a close eye on each sandwich as it cooks. Carefully slice each sandwich in half and serve while hot.
PRO TIP:
Keep a close eye on the temperature, and adjust up or down to avoid burning the sandwich.
How To Serve
You can’t get much better than pepperoni pizza made in sandwich form. The melty cheese, pizza sauce, and pepperoni all combined in a tasty grilled sandwich is the ultimate lunch. Add celery or carrots sticks and a handful of potato chips on the side. For a larger meal, you could serve this with a warm bowl of tomato soup.

Storage
IN THE FRIDGE: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator overnight. You can reheat the sandwiches in the skillet.
IN THE FREEZER: We do not recommend freezing leftovers as the bread will become soggy once thawed.
Grilled cheese is a classic sandwich for a reason. But sometimes, you just need a little bit more oomph, and that’s where pepperoni pizza grilled cheese comes in. This delicious sandwich takes all the best parts of both dishes and combines them into one amazing meal.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
These pizza sandwiches would work with your favorite bread. Try regular white bread, French bread, Italian bread, ciabatta, or rye bread.
While mozzarella and provolone are classic pizza cheese choices, you could use any cheese that melts well on this pizza grilled cheese sandwich.
We would recommend sticking with pizza sauce as marinara tends to be more watery and may make your grilled cheese pizza sandwich soggy.
