Like most boys their age, Joey and Tanner love sharks, making a shark inspired party on point! Hosted at the Houston Aquarium, guests enjoyed getting up close and personal with sharks while also enjoying refreshments and birthday cake from an exciting dessert table.

Hosting a party away from home can sometimes be a challenge when set-up time is tight. Julie kept the overall design and layout of this party simple, but she didn’t scrimp on stylish fun!
The dessert table included impressive elements. For me, the highlight of the design was the custom painted shark backdrop! I love how it coordinates with the printable decorations Julie made. An aqua tablecloth was accented with a grass table skirt and a fin shaped “happy birthday” banner (cue the Jaws theme song).
A simple cardboard palm tree standee served as an easy centerpiece and separated two magnificent shark cakes by Whoo’s Bakery. Look at the waves made from layered colors of fondant! I spy some fins popping out of the tops of the waves!
Cupcakes were made cool with shark fin toppers. I love that they were displayed sitting atop a sandy brown sugar beach. I’d like to take a big bite out of one them. How about you?
If the desserts didn’t excite guests enough, the party favor bags were certainly a hit! I adore the clever tags which read: “Hope you had a fintastic time”. Party favors are always a welcome send off!
The children’s dining tables were covered in ocean colored tablecloths and topped off with fish netting and beach balls. Palm tree standees and wooden shark fins were added as tabletop centerpieces.
A pop of color was incorporated into the table design at each place setting. Festive, blue striped plates were layered with shark cake plates and silly shark glasses.
Guests were able to enjoy the shark exhibit and other fun activities at the aquarium. What an easy-peasy alternative to planning a bunch of games and activities. Sounds “fin-tastic” to me!
If your child has been bitten with shark fever, this boys’ shark party is a great place to start for some “fin-speration”. Circle over the simple ideas time and again while you make your own shark party plan of attack!
