7UP Cherry Cobbler Ingredients
The magic of our 7UP cherry cobbler lies in its simple yet flavorful ingredients.
The cherry pie filling is the star of our cobbler, providing a rich, fruity flavor that perfectly complements the sweetness of the cake mix.
The 7UP lemon-lime soda is an unexpected but essential ingredient that adds a unique twist to the cobbler, enhancing the flavor and texture of the cake.
Let’s take a look at everything you’ll need:
- 3 (21-ounce) cans of cherry pie filling
- 1 (15.25-ounce) box of yellow cake mix (your favorite brand, I used the Best Choice store brand)
- 2¼ cups (20 ounces) of 7UP lemon-lime soda (you can use a generic version if you prefer)
- 1½-2 tablespoons salted butter, melted (optional to brush over the finished cobbler)
- Vanilla ice cream (optional garnish)
PRO TIP:
We made this recipe in a 9×13 pan, but if you want to make this in a smaller 8×8 pan, you can. If you do this, you can also use a smaller box of cake mix (Jiffy brand) and a mini can of 7UP (7.5 ounces).
Substitutions And Additions
CHERRY PIE FILLING: You can substitute the cherry pie filling for blueberry, blackberry, or strawberry pie filling in this great recipe.
Each of these alternatives will offer a unique flavor twist to the cobbler.
YELLOW CAKE MIX: Feel free to substitute the yellow cake mix with a white cake mix or even a cherry chip cake mix for an extra burst of cherry flavor.
7UP SODA: You can substitute your favorite brand of lemon-lime soda for the 7UP.
Or, you can substitute cherry 7UP for the regular 7UP for an even bigger shot of cherry flavor.
How To Make This 7UP Cherry Cobbler Recipe
Creating our 7UP cherry cobbler is a straightforward process that even novice bakers can master. Let’s walk through the steps:
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F. Generously spray a 9×13 baking dish with baker’s spray. You can use Baker’s Joy or a generic version.
STEP TWO: Evenly spread two cans of cherry pie filling in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
STEP THREE: Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the cherry pie filling.
STEP FOUR: Slowly pour the 7UP over top of the cake mix layer. It will be foamy. Use a spoon to gently smooth the very top layer of the cake mix and 7UP.
You only want to smooth, not stir, the top layer.
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
The dish will be very, very full, so when transferring it to the oven, go slow.
STEP FIVE: Spoon five to six dollops of the remaining cherry pie filling.
Bake for one hour to one hour and ten minutes until the cake is golden brown.
Every oven bakes differently, just be sure to keep a close eye on your cobbler, checking around 55 minutes.
In my oven, one hour and five minutes was the perfect bake time.
STEP SIX: Remove from the oven and use a pastry brush to brush the melted butter over the exposed cake, if desired.
Allow the cake to cool completely before serving with vanilla ice cream.
The longer the cobbler sits and cools will firm up the cobbler. It will take a while to cool completely.
PRO TIP:
Halfway through the bake time, if you notice any dry cake mix spots, you can use a pastry brush and one to two tablespoons of 7UP. Dip the end of the pastry brush in the 7UP. Gently dab the dry spots. Return the cobbler to the oven to finish baking.
How To Serve
Our 7UP cherry cobbler is a great dessert that can be served in a variety of ways.
Serve it warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The cold ice cream melts into the warm cobbler, creating a delightful contrast of temperatures and flavors.
For a festive touch, garnish the cobbler with some fresh cherries or a little bit of powdered sugar before serving.
If you’re serving this at a party, consider offering a variety of toppings like whipped cream, hot fudge sauce, or even a cherry compote for guests to customize their serving.
Add our strawberry cobbler and lemon cobbler to your menu for two more desserts we are certain you will enjoy.
