You may not be a Who down in Whoville but you’ll enjoy the whimsical details of this Grinch inspired Christmas party!
This Dr. Seuss-inspired party has long been on the Banner Events’ party-planning bucket list. It was such a thrill to plan and style it — and have Karina of A Fresh Take Photography capture the fun!
A bright color palette of red paired with a very specific shade of green—characteristic of the “mean one”—mixed with patterns of chevron, polka dots and stripes, made the decorations lively and festive.
A Who-riffic dessert table for feasting included colorful and delicious cupcakes and treats. Guests even dressed the part in stylish Who-inspired attire and accessories.

It may seem strange, but in addition to the Whos and Grinch, a party product also inspired this soiree. Party Paper by Smash Cake & Co., in shades of cherry red and apple green, was the basis of much of the party décor.
Available in stripes, polka dots and chevron, I mixed and matched this versatile matte wrapping paper and used it as an inexpensive accessory.
It served as the backdrop for the dessert table, was cut into runners for tables, dressed up milk glasses, was crafted into rosette backers for cupcake toppers and more! I even used it to line my invitation envelopes!
Tonya, of Soiree Event Design, summoned her inner Cindy Lou Who in order to design a wonderful Grinch-inspired Christmas party invitation and coordinating printable decorations.
I loved how she brought in that Grinch feel with slightly abnormal shaped gifts and a crooked tree.
The printable package she created included so many fun elements for adding that Seussical feel.
Printables are a great way to create a cohesive, custom look to an event. You’ll notice we used banners, favor tags and labels, folding food labels, beverage wraps, cupcake toppers, scroll chair backer signs and straw flags that were all made to match.
While the designs alluded to the Grinch, we purposely avoided using any copyrighted characters.
Tonya and I worked together on the invitation design, and I just love how it turned out.
Friends were invited to “come to our Who-house at a quarter past 4” and to be on the lookout for “the Who wreath on our front door”.
We of course had to have a Who inspired wreath by the talented Jordan, of Designs by Jordan. We attached an adorable Whoville scroll sign to the wreath for coordinating.
Who-liday guests arrived in Who-ish attire.
From a bow-topped chevron dress to a tiered lace romper to handcrafted hair accessories and bright green lace leggings, our little Cindy-Lous looked amazing sporting couture clothing from Posh Peanuts.
Chunky bead necklaces by Addy’s Attic made the perfect addition to the girls’ outfits.
Our male Whos wore crazy ties, shirts and hats that just screamed Who!
Dressing the part provided a fun way for guests to help reinforce the theme.
A fabulous table for feasting was designed with Whos in mind.
Covered in an eye-catching red striped party paper runner, our Who-inspired dining table was decked out in greenery, oversized ornaments and inexpensive candy tree centerpieces I created using candy from Candy Galaxy and foam cones from our local dollar store.
I also made mini dessert stands using glass plates, candle sticks and a little Epoxy 6000 glue.
Plain chairs were spruced up by making chair backers from green polka dot party paper, red ribbon and a custom scroll-shaped Whoville Guest sign.
Colorful place settings were created by layering chargers, red Christmas plates and striped plates. Stamped cutlery sat atop polka dotted napkins accented with berry clusters.
Christmas crackers filled with candy were an easy DIY idea using upcycled toilet paper rolls, ribbon and party paper.
Don’t they look festive on top of the plates? The cutest glass milk bottles were decked in party paper, a printable beverage wrap and adorned with a small wreath.
They were finished off with striped paper straws and coordinating straw party flags.
While the Grinch may not like delicious treats, thankfully, this dessert table had little Whos in mind!
Designed with beautiful Christmas treats, the dessert table displayed colorful sweets atop a gorgeous ruffle tablecloth by Candy Crush Events.
Highlights included: Cindy Lou cupcakes (I had so much fun creating the paper rosettes with cute WHO-liday printables for the toppers), Who Jell-o served in mini dessert jars (a fun layered dessert inspired by an Anders Ruff’s tutorial), and cake bites shaped like presents and ornaments.
There were even chocolate covered Oreos for Santa (by Bella’s Bakery & Bowtique).
I dipped rice Krispy treats in chocolate and embellished each with a printable party flag.
Another great addition was delightful red and green candy, from Candy Galaxy, which filled apothecary jars.
But, in the center of them all, were the most amazing Grinch cookies ever seen, by Scrumpalicious ~ Novelty Bakery Arts, embellished with an edible “heart that had grown 3 sizes that day”!
Framed as a focal point for our table, the whimsical tree portrait included in the printable package by Soiree Event Design was just perfect!
Who favors are a must at a Who-liday party! Simple white gable boxes were dressed up in Who-liday style using paper ribbon and cute labels and tags from the printable collection.
Each guest was invited to fill these boxes with treats from the dessert table and hutch.
The hutch was filled with glittered, laser cut candies by Ten23designs, and additional treats like custom WHO hair cotton candy from Soiree Event Design.
Whether you are planning a holiday celebration for old or young, a Grinch inspired Christmas party filled with clever details can be loads of fun!
