Starburst Jello Shots Ingredients
You’ll need:
- 1 (3.93-ounce) box of Starburst all-pink strawberry gelatin
- 1½ cups boiling water
- 1 cup whipped cream flavored vodka, chilled
- ½ cup cold water
- Garnish – 16 pink Starburst strawberry candies, unwrapped
PRO TIP:
If you can’t find the 2-ounce plastic shot glasses with lids, they may be labeled as plastic condiment cups. These can be used interchangeably. You can use any shot cups you prefer, but keep in mind that your servings may differ from this recipe.
SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS
STARBURST: I found a bag of “FaveReds” Starburst candies. It had only shades of pink and red candies (strawberry, cherry, fruit punch & watermelon), so you do not have to buy too many packages of traditional Starburst just to pick out the pink ones. Plus, these shades of red and pink Starburst candies make the decoration of the jello shots very pretty if you use some, or all, of the shades.
VODKA: I tested this easy recipe with plain vodka, strawberry vodka, vanilla vodka, and whipped cream vodka. I found that the whipped cream vodka worked best with the flavor of Starburst all-pink strawberry jello gelatin due to its additional sweetness. However, the strawberry vodka and the vanilla vodka were tasty as well. The plain vodka did not compliment the jello flavor nearly as much.
JELLO: For these delicious jello shots, you can change the flavor of gelatin if you can’t find the Starburst jello. Use plain strawberry jello in its place and you’ll still have the pink color and fruity flavor.
COOL WHIP: Add a small scoop of whipped topping on top of the jello shots before adding the Starburst candy for even more sweetness.
How to Make This Starburst Jello Shots Recipe
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
This recipe can easily be doubled if you are serving them at a large party. Just remember to label them for the adults only and not the kiddos.
STEP ONE: Place 16 (2-ounce sized) plastic cups, with lids removed, onto a medium-sized rimmed baking sheet. Set aside.
PRO TIP:
Setting the jello shot containers on a baking tray will help make it easier to transport them to the fridge for chilling.
STEP TWO: In a large mixing bowl, add the packet of pink Starburst gelatin powder and boiling water. Whisk to combine until all the gelatin has dissolved.
PRO TIP:
A quick and easy way to boil your water is to place the 1½ cups of water into a microwave-safe 2-cup spouted glass measuring cup. Microwave on high for 3½ to 4 minutes to boil the water.
STEP THREE: Add the whipped cream flavored vodka and the cold water to the dissolved gelatin. Stir to combine.
PRO TIP:
You can chill your vodka in the freezer before adding it to your recipe to help the jello shots set up quicker. You can keep your vodka in the freezer all the time as vodka will not freeze due to the alcohol. This is a great tip for all your vodka/cocktail needs.
STEP FOUR: Divide the Starburst jello mixture evenly among the 16 jello shot cups.
STEP FIVE: Chill the Starburst jello shots for 4 hours or up to overnight.
STEP SIX: Garnish each Starburst jello shot with an unwrapped light pink Starburst (strawberry flavor) just before serving. If you place the Starburst candy on too soon before serving, the candy will start to get soft from the jello.

Storage
IN THE FRIDGE: If you are storing these Starburst shots in the refrigerator for longer than the 4 hours required for the jello shots to set up, you can place the lids onto each of the jello cups once they are set until ready to serve. This makes storage and transportation very easy as they can be stacked to save space. You can make these Starburst jello shots up to a week ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator.
IN THE FREEZER: Because of the gelatin and alcohol, this pink Starburst shot recipe doesn’t tend to freeze very well.
If Starburst is one of your favorite candies, you will have to try these delightful pink strawberry jello shots. They have all the fruity flavor of Starburst candy in a tasty and fun alcoholic party treat.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
These Starburst jello shots can be made up to a week ahead of time.
If you have any leftover jello shots, you can store them in the fridge for up to a week with their lids tightly on. You can make them up to a week days of your party before serving, but make sure you are storing the containers with the lids on.
No, I don’t find that jello shots freeze well because of the gelatin and alcohol. While you can pop in the freezer for a few minutes to help speed along the setting process, you shouldn’t store them in the freezer after they’re done.
