WHAT IS DOLE WHIP?

Dole Whip is a soft-serve pineapple-flavored frozen treat created by the Dole Food Company in 1984. It has become a popular treat that is sold at Disney World.

What is the difference between Dole Whip and ice cream?

Dole Whip has the texture and taste of soft-serve ice cream but gets its consistency from food thickeners. Unlike ice cream, Dole Whip doesn’t contain any milk products.

Is Dole Whip dairy-free?

Dole Whip is dairy-free and does not contain any dairy products.

DOLE WHIP INGREDIENTS

Dole Whip raw ingredients that are labeled

You’ll need:

  • 1 big scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • 4 ounces of pineapple juice
  • 2 cups of frozen pineapple chunks

PRO TIP:

To make enough pineapple Dole Whip to share, make sure you double or triple the ingredients listed above.

SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS

ICE CREAM: The official recipe is a vegan and dairy-free dessert. You can use dairy-free ice cream in your own Dole Whip to mimic the original and keep this sweet treat an exact copycat of the real thing, or you can substitute your favorite type of non-dairy-free ice cream for a creamier version of this treat. You could also try mixing up the ice cream flavor for a delicious twist!

RUM: For a fun, adults-only version of this tasty treat, add 1½ ounces of rum to your blender as you make your Dole Whip.

HOW TO MAKE DOLE WHIP

STEP ONE: Add all of the ingredients to your blender.

Dole Whip ingredients blended together in a blender

STEP TWO: Blend until smooth. The Dole Whip should have a thick and creamy consistency.

STEP THREE: Using an icing piping bag or Ziploc bag with a corner trimmed off, pipe your Dole Whip in a swirl into a cup.

PRO TIP:

If using a piping bag to swirl your Dole Whip, use a large nozzle as the mixture will be thick. You can also add your mixture to a large Ziploc bag, trim the corner and use the bag to pipe and swirl it.

SERVING DOLE PINEAPPLE WHIP

This delightful frozen treat will cool you down on a hot day. Serve this popular dessert on its own, or add a maraschino cherry and dollop of whipped cream on top for an extra fun dessert.

HOMEMADE DOLE WHIP STORAGE

IN THE FRIDGE: This treat will not keep in the fridge. It needs to be frozen in order to keep the soft-serve texture that it is famous for.

IN THE FREEZER: Dole pineapple whip is a frozen dessert similar to frozen yogurt, which makes it best to store in your freezer. Keep it in an airtight container or plastic bag. Keep in mind that this recipe makes a single serving, so there’s not likely to be much leftover!

It’s recommended to make this homemade Disney’s Dole Whip recipe just before you’re planning to eat it (instead of ahead of time) to create the same soft texture found at Disney World.

Disney’s beloved Dole Whip is a refreshing treat that’s creamy, loaded with sweet pineapple flavor, and made with only three simple ingredients of ice cream, pineapple juice, and frozen pineapple.

DOLE WHIP FAQ

Can I use canned pineapple?

You can use either fresh pineapple, canned pineapple, or pineapple from the freezer section in this easy recipe. It just has to be drained and frozen before adding to the blender.

Is this copycat recipe dairy free?

The original recipe is vegan and you could replace the vanilla ice cream with dairy-free ice cream to make this pineapple treat vegan.
