Table of Contents
This deep-fried Oreos recipe delivers a delicious, gooey bite that is a perfect copycat of the iconic fair food. Easy to make with a handful of simple ingredients, these fluffy bite-sized treats are sure to be a blue ribbon winner at home.
Deep Fried Oreos Ingredients
This recipe combines the classic “Double Stuf” Oreos with a crispy, slightly savory outer layer made from Bisquick batter, resulting in a delightful texture.
The Oreos’ sweet, creamy filling turns molten and gooey when deep-fried, while the confectioner’s sugar adds a touch of sweetness.
You’ll need:
- 1 quart of vegetable oil
- 1 large egg, beaten
- ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 cup of whole milk
- 1½ cups of Bisquick
- 1 package of “Double Stuf” Oreos
- Confectioner’s sugar for dusting
Substitutions And Additions
MILK: While Oreos are dairy-free, to begin with, to eliminate the milk from the fried Oreo batter, you could simply replace the milk in the Bisquick mix with water.
Just be aware that the batter will not be quite as creamy as it would have been otherwise.
OREOS: For a tasty twist, try using different flavors of Oreo cookies as the foundation for this recipe.
Oreo makes so many fun and delicious flavors, from red velvet and birthday cake to mint or peanut butter flavors.
You could also pick a different brand of chocolate sandwich cookies if you would like. You can also create a perfect party tray by using a variety!
PANCAKE MIX: While our preference is Bisquick for the best fried dough, you can use any brand of pancake mix or a favorite homemade mix if you have one.
Crescent rolls can also be used to wrap the cookie before frying for a simple alternative.
How To Make This Deep Fried Oreos Recipe
Once you coat the Oreos with batter, all you need to do is fry them in oil before enjoying them.
STEP ONE: Heat oil in a large Dutch oven to 350°F. Make sure to test the temperature of your oil with a candy thermometer.
If it is too hot, your deep-fried Oreos will burn!
OUR RECIPE DEVELOPER SAYS
It is important to make sure you have enough oil to submerge the Oreos.
STEP TWO: In a medium bowl, whisk together the beaten egg, vanilla extract, and milk. Add the pancake mix and whisk until no lumps remain.
STEP THREE: Using a large spoon, dip an Oreo into the batter and turn it over to ensure it is fully coated. Then, scoop up the Oreo and a spoonful of pancake batter.
PRO TIP:
While you can use a fork inserted into the Oreo, this method of using a spoon allows for a more even coating and less breakage, resulting in a fully enclosed and puffy dough around the cookie.
STEP FOUR: Slowly put the batter-covered Oreo into the hot oil. As you are lowering the spoon into the oil, turn it over so that the Oreo is on the bottom and the extra batter ends up on the top.
Let the Oreo cook for about 30-60 seconds (depending on how hot your oil is) or until the Oreo has turned golden brown.
STEP FIVE: Cook the Oreos in batches of two to three at a time, and keep an eye on your oil temperature.
PRO TIP:
As you are frying up your Oreos, be sure to pick out any pieces of dough that have fallen off into the oil. They will burn and make the Oreos taste burnt.
STEP SIX: Remove the fried Oreos using a slotted spoon to a paper towel-lined plate.
Then, sprinkle the coated cookies with powdered sugar and serve immediately while the creme filling is still hot!
How to Make Fried Oreos In An Air Fryer
You can use an air fryer. The texture and final product will be a bit different than if you fry them using oil, but they will still be delicious!
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F. Put your battered Oreos into an air fryer basket that has been lined with parchment paper.
Then, cook the Oreos for four to five minutes on one side. Flip them and cook for another two to three minutes until they are golden brown.

Deep Fried Oreos Recipe Storage
Here are some easy tips for storing and reheating your delightful treats:
MAKE AHEAD: While deep-fried Oreos are best enjoyed fresh, you can prepare them in advance by coating the Oreos in the Bisquick batter and freezing them before frying.
Simply arrange the coated Oreos on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, then transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag.
When ready to indulge, you can fry them straight from the freezer – no thawing required!
ON THE COUNTER: Ideally, you should eat fried Oreos right away. This perfect treat is best when they are hot and fresh to enjoy the melted center.
They will get soggy if they sit for too long or if they cool off and have to be reheated.
That being said, you can keep them on the counter for a couple of hours if necessary.
IN THE FREEZER: We do not recommend freezing deep-fried Oreos as they will become soggy. Stick with making these fresh.

Fried Oreo Recipe FAQ
We use Bisquick combined with egg, vanilla extract, and whole milk to make the crispy batter for the fried Oreos.
Any sandwich cookie will be delicious in this recipe. Whether traditional Oreos or another Oreo flavor, you can pick your favorite.
You can certainly substitute water for milk in the batter, just be aware that the mixture will not be quite as creamy.
Freezing Oreos before frying is an optional step. If you fry room-temperature Oreos, they will be somewhat softer after the frying process. Freezing the Oreos first produces firmer cookies in the finished product.
Vegetable oil is the standard oil used for deep frying at home. It heats to the right temperature and won’t leave any extra taste on the finished product.
This sweet treat is best served fresh before they cool. Once they cool, the batter will become soggy and won’t have that delicious, fried taste.
