Treats should be part of the holiday season. Whether you’re hosting a party or surprising your family, know what kind of sweet delight most often pleases?

Well…pie is delicious but unless you don’t care if you look socially awkward, it is not the best thing to eat out of your hand.

Cake is wonderful but good manners dictate a plate and fork. A table is optional, of course.

But cookies—that’s a different thing. Hand-held rounds of sweetness to be daintily nibbled or consumed with gusto and no one bats an eye if you take seconds or thirds? That’s for me!

And since cookies are meant to be baked by the dozens, that makes them perfect for holiday celebrations, Christmas parties and little boys with big eyes.

They’re also perfect for busy moms who try to do it all. Even though they’re little guys, mine know when I pull out the Christmas cookie jar, holiday fun is just ahead. The Country Crock® Make It Yours™ cookie recipe makes it easy to please.

The Make It Yours recipe is made with ingredients you can pronounce and you can customize it so many ways. It’s the only cookie recipe you need this holiday.

This time I added peanut butter cups and chocolate candies in Christmas colors. Talk about divine decadence.

  7. 3 cups all-purpose flour
  8. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  9. ¾ teaspoon salt
  10. ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  11. 1 to 2 cups of your choice of mix-ins
  12. I added 20 mini peanut butter cups. I let the paddle break them up in the batter—another time saver. I also added one cup of regular sized green and red candies.
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°
  2. Mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, Country Crock spread, egg, egg yolk and vanilla in a large bowl until well mixed.
  3. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda until blended (dough will be soft and creamy).
  4. Add mix-ins.
  5. Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets 3-inches apart.
  6. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Cool 1 minute on wire rack; remove from baking sheets and cool completely.

But don’t think you must wait for a holiday party to start baking. Surprise your family. Like Antony and Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, Napoleon and Josephine, cookies and Christmas just go together!
